Had it several times, but hadn’t really sat down and enjoyed it, so I decided to sit and rate it with some friends. Pours yellow amber with a large puffy tan head. The nose is full of sweet smoky dried fruit. The taste is very smooth and warming, notes of caramel and drid fruit. Has a great throat warming quality that finishes with a smoky roasty aftertaste. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA

Somewhat thick and quite rich in caramel malt. Bitterness in the aftertaste only. A real winner. Ibrew2or3 (2751), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 3, 2006 Orange brown in color. Pures with no head. The carbonation was minimal. Aroma of caramel and fruity hops. The taste was semi sweet with caramel malts, citrus hops in the background and finish. Malty. The mouthful was very smooth ,delicate, and alittle thin. As this beer warmed the body became thicker, which is a good thing. Very easy to drink. Funny, I was expecting alot more. peterstrongale (43), Tampa, Florida, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 15, 2006 750. Beer is medium-dark caramel brown with an average-sized, beige, frothy head that mostly diminishes into a ring of glossy sea foam.

The aroma is more hop-focused in the American style. It’s malty with moderate notes of toasted grain, caramel, light note of cookie; Hoppy with a moderate note of resin/pine, cedar; Yeasty with a light note of dough; Miscellaney includes moderate notes of peppery alcohol, raisin, plum.

The flavor is moderately sweet, moderately-to-heavily bitter with a long, warm, moderately bitter, lightly sweet finish.

The body is medium, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is lively. Teensy bit salty in the finish. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 13, 2006 750ml bottle. Aroma: Sweet maltiness with notes of toasted nuts, caramel, yeasty bread, plums, a touch of citrus, and some subtle spiciness. Alcohol is there but not overbearing. Appearance: Murky reddish-brown in color. Off white head was full and creamy, but didn’t last long. Nice lacing. Flavor: Sweet maltiness comes on first with caramel and a nice toasted quality. Some cocoa and vanilla and light woodiness. A surprising level of bitterness kicks in towards the middle. Full of pine and resin, it sticks around just long enough to introduce the finish. Alcohol is medium-strong into the finish. Finish is fairly dry for such a sweet starting beer. Palate: Full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Strong alcohol warming in back and roof of mouth. Overall: A great barleywine that is very drinkable. Almost dangerously so.
