joekfsu (100), Boardman, Ohio, USA May 16, 2008 #100. 25.4 oz bottle. Pours a thick black that is impossible to see through with a 2 cm tan foamy head that is slowly diminishing. Aroma is totally dominated by coffee with hints of malt and alcohol. Initial flavor is coffee heavy with a hint of chocolate that changes to a balance of previous flavors plus malts and a slight hop bite at the end. Ends moderately bitter, lasts, can feel the alcohol here. Tons of lacing, medium body, very light carbonation, and obvious alcohol hanging around. Drinkable, yes, best stout around, maybe, best I have tasted yet, absolutely. kseecs16 (432), Westmont, Illinois, USA May 12, 2008 Bottle. Poured opaque with a quickly dissipating coke colored head. A viscous lacing. Aroma is strong dark roasted malts, sweet dark chocolate hints. A very fich dry roast penetrating flavor with no hint of burn or char. Very dry finish. Great imperial stout. SuperDave70 (474), Arizona, USA May 11, 2008 Pours a deep black with a foamy brown head. Aroma is lots of dark roasted coffee and some dark chocolates. Flavor is mostly coffee up front, but then roasted malts, grains and chocolate sweetness come through. Seemed a little thin on the palate, at least against my expectations. Still, a great brew. Ofortuna (266), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA May 10, 2008 750ml bottle, 2007 vintage. Gorgeous cocoa foamy head. Huge aromas of coffee, mocha and chocolate. Intense coffee flavour with a wonderful creamy mouthfeel and palate. Nice complexity on this with several layers of flavours being evident. Coffee bitterness paired perfectly with the hop presence helped to lend a wonderful balance to the malt backbone. Hardly a hint of alcohol noticed considering the high level inside my glass. This is outstanding and probably my top imperial stout. Tasting this next to a Darklord, I can say that the DL has more viscosity and is more aggressive. assertive and in-your-face. Speedway is more complex and refined. You can actually taste the various layers of complexity. Coffee, specialty grains, creamy palate and mouthfeel. Just outstanding and so well done. ghawener (582), San Salvador, El Salvador May 10, 2008 Thanks RSamayoa. Bottle: Sampled at a RateBeerians session in San Salvador. Starts with a delicate creamy Hershey’s Chocolate note, moves into coffee with a great smokey & malty undertone. Delicious.
