The aroma of dark fruits, like prunes with coffee and some chocolate. The taste of sweet dark fruits, like cherries and prunes. There is some coffee with notes of chocolate. In the back also some soy bean. There is also a little sour taste. The aftertaste is bitter with sweets. 17thfloor (1464), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 14, 2009 Rating 1003, so this was supposed to be #1000, however, we opened it, 2008 vintage, and unanimously decide the bottle was cooked. Here is my rating of said cooked beer, which was definitely not the worst top 50 beer we opened tonight. Pours a dark unclear near black brown with a small fizzy tan head. Aroma of coffee, butter, vegetables, faint chocolate and yeast. Flavor follows, a bit cooked, faded coffee and mellow chocolate, buttery, lots of roast, very smooth and balanced, slightly boozy. Not an extreme beer like many of its peers, really well balanced. Not sweet or bitter but just right. Medium/full body, creamy, smooth, faint carbonation, not sticky or chewy. Unfortunate about this bottle because I have 2 more of the same!!! I have decided that I will ice and filter one of those bottle... should be pretty damn good. gracefullypunk (304), Washington, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 14, 2009 Nearly black with a cappuccino head. Wonderful chocolate and malt smell with slight vanilla notes. Smooth and full taste. Taste begins with roasted malt, moves to coffee and ends with a bitter dark chocolate. Love this beer. jrob21 (1263), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 12, 2009 Finally rating this one after a couple of trys. I did not get a good enough experience the first time around and hence am going at this one again. This time though I picked up a complex and unique aroma of roasted coffee with a tinge of vanilla. The flavor was vanilla first with the roasted malt flavor coming through a little later in the palate. The roasted malt at first was like a coffee experience but soon that faded, possibly as it warmed, into a more chocolate malt and cocoa flavor. All of this combined with a creamy milky sort of texture reminds you of a chocolate milk sort of experience. Ridiculous, ridiculous sort of beer. Anker (308), Hillerød, Denmark

Pours black, unfortunately with no head due to the late hour..
Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, chocolate a little liquorice and then again coffee, very smooth.
Flavour is also loads of smooth coffee, dark chocolate, malt and hops. but a little to much alcohol is present. A creamy and full bodied mouthful. Great brew! plovmand (1650), Helsinge, Denmark
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 12, 2009 Rating # 1000. Bottle shared with hallinghansen. Pitch black body with a creamy steady brown head. What a sight! Lovely aroma of lots of coffee and roasted malts. Notes of chocolate and sweet tobacco as well. The coffee is for sure in the flavour and the bitter chocolate notes hits your taste buds and makes your mouth drool. Nice balanced roasty notes and in the finish the hops really shows off. The body is very creamy and smooth. Overall its a very balanced and well crafted Impy stout. altehkiller (71), , California, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 7, 2009 Bottled 750ml. Courtesy of badlizard. Appearance: It pours a pitch black beer with an average sized dark beige head. Good retention and beautiful lacework. Aroma: A huge amount of coffee which is accompanied by burnt caramel, mint, plum, ginger and candy sugar. Wonderful hops are detectable too. Flavor and palate: Very thick creamy mouthfeel. Smooth. The alcohol is nicely hidden. Tarragon, burnt caramel, strong coffee, plums, ginger and mint toffee showing up. Surprisingly sour. Great hop profile. Coffee, grapefruit and mint in the finish which is pretty dry and lasting for a very long time. Overall impression: A great beer. The finish is absolutely fantastic. Thanks a lot badlizard!
