Deep black with just little shiny brown edges, modest layer of burnt tan fine bubbles with some good stick. Dry smokey coffee roast aroma, dry burnt toast, dark chocolate. Fuller body than the BA Speedway, and fuller, more dramatic roast character. Lingering dark chocolate. Green sappy wood. A stunning, beautiful beer. Compared to the BA Speedway: the nose on this is a little less luxurious, but the fullness of the roast character is just outstanding. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 29, 2008 Bottle at Toms Ultimate Glasgow Tasting ... Deep deep black ... little thin compaired to others ... Little rougher ... lot and lots of coffee lots of roast malts. Pours black but moving to gravy brown at the edges with just a few brown bubbles trying to big it up as a head. Creamy and soft in the mouth, indulgent, rich and oodles of dark, dark chocolate, ooh eck the chicken is catching that’ll have to do, stunner of a beer. Butters (1649), Virginia, USA

Pours an oildy black with no head. Great roasty aroma somewhat hot on the end. Flavor is sweet and chocolatey. Tastes like a dark chocolate candy bar. What a way to pop my alesmith cherry! Watery and almost no carbonation. Swolf3 (252), Elkton, Maryland, USA

Aroma is dark chocolate, lots of coffee, a touch of bitterness, and a touch boozy. Flavor is good, sweet, I get a ton of coffee from this, roasted malts, some chocolate, and a slightly bitter finish. Smooth on the palate, slightly alcoholic. m4rest88 (216), Beverly Hills, California, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 14, 2008 Pours a very black hue with a good sized light brown head. Aroma is very sweet, with lots of coffee, molasses, and some chocolate.
Flavor starts off sweet, then finishes off with a hoppy bitter flavor that lingers in the mouth for a while. However, caramel dominates the flavor!
Syrupy mouthfeel, with lively carbonation. Hands down the best stout I have ever tasted!
