Black in color, light tan head with some lacing. Smell is of cocoa, chocolate, roastiness and a little bit of cream. Much of the same in the taste, long, dry roasty finish. Full bodied, fairly low in carbonation. Overall this was a very good beer, but I think I’d like to try a non-aged bottle for comparison.

Pours a dark black body with a thin beige head. The aroma is mostly rich coffee notes. The taste was very good; heaps of mocha ice coffee, some Oak, chocolate, and a very smooth and full mouthfeel. Very good. No notice of the 12% ABV at all. I could drink this for breakfast. daknole (2918), Plantation, Florida, USA

Aromas of coffee, dark chocolate and more coffee! And flavors are rich with sharp dark chocolate, coffee and some woody and fruit overtones. Loved this beer. Just about as good as it gets! Poured a dark black with one of the largest tan heads I’ve ever seen. Vary full flavored with chocolate and coffee being the most overwhelming flavors. The best beer I’ve tasted to date. This beer actually lived up to all the hype. timfoolery (484), California, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jul 2, 2008 Bottle special ordered from Oregon. DTM poured this one normally to show it’s huge, billowy head. It tasted like coffee whipped cream as I sucked it down. I can’t imagine a better brew than this, but I’m keeping 0.2 just in case (like the olympic judges). Flavor was the fullest I’ve tasted with parts of chocolate, coffee, toffee, and dark fruit. Some of the alcohol became apparent as it warmed, but very slightly. You could get messed up on this beer in a hurry. Overall, it’s the best I’ve tasted. matt7215 (965), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

We drank this at the wrong time of year at the wrong place...a hot day on the beach in Mexico. Would be perfect for a cold winter night. Not really my cup of tea, I’m more into the IPA’s but for what it’s worth this beer was HUGE. It poured thick and black and tasted of coffee and chocolate. Maybe next time I’ll get a bottle for a cold camping trip. ATLBeerDog (280), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 30, 2008 Pours deep, deep brown almost black with a 1/8 caramel tan head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt. Smells a lot like Dark Lord. First sip: is rich, creamy, and complex with a great balance with all that is going on. Coffee dominates as the lead, with everything else performing great in a supportive role. Not as thick or syrupy as a Dark Lord, but the body is strong thanks to a great malt backbone. It finishes with a wonderful bitterness that is much appreciated. This is no doubt a World Class RIS!
