| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 29, 2008 Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black body with, well, no real head to speak of. Rather Kahlua-like in appearance.
Smell: Heavily roasted dark malts with notes of espresso, dark chocolate, molasses, and chocolate cake (topped with a cherry). Keyword: Lovely.
Taste: Dark, roasty maltiness with full flavors of dark chocolate, birthday cake coated in blackstrap molasses, and (even moreso) robust coffee. Slightly obscured fruitiness. Roasty, earthy bitterness. A flickering of sweet dark caramel in amongst the heavier flavors. A distinct, warming touch of alcohol heat. Long, lingering coffee finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Relatively creamy mouthfeel.
Drinkability: A very rich, complex stout, and yet another fantastic release from AleSmith. dpjuart (670), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | May 28, 2008 (400) Bomber Shared with Naka. Pours black - that’s it. Rich and creamy chocolate milk head, one finger, frothy and inviting. Nose is roast and fruit, chocolate covered raisins, coffee, slight caramel and some alcohol. Taste is fruity up front that leads somehow to a sour taste (lactose maybe?) however mild. This melds well into a slightly burnt, roasty coffee flavor. A solid bitter from the hops mixes well with mild astringency from the roasted malts. Great balance. I think that’s what makes it so good, and so highly rated. It’s not roast/fruit/bitter heavy like some other Impy Stouts. Very good stuff. IlanMan (817), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 26, 2008 Fantastic brew thanks to kegbear. Pour is thick black with strong aromas of coffee, malt, light hops, roasted grain, and light caramel. Palate is incredibly smooth. Alcohol is well hidden. There isn’t one flavor that really jumps out at you but every flavor seems to jump out the same amount. Shall I say perfect stout? Maybe not yet but this is getting close. I’m glad I can’t get this beer where I live for I would be broke and fat. amishcaravan (237), Winona, Minnesota, USA

This is deffinitely a sipping beer. Open this if you have an hour to sip. It will take some time. I was quite impressed with this one. | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | May 23, 2008 On tap at Stone Brewing World Bistro And Gardens. Pours dark black w/ a brown creamy small head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate w/ a hint of alcohol. Flavor begins intense and alcoholy on the tip of the tongue, but ends smooth and chocolaty sweet. The intense malts create a complex flavor, that is spicy, chocolate, coffee and alcohol. The alcohol is enjoyable and tastes almost like a red wine. Palate is nice and smooth, really great. Not even a hint of hops. Overall, very very good. One of the best Imperial Stouts. A must try. dmruth (25), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 20, 2008 750 Bottle. No doubt about the coffee beans. Pours a thick black with minimal head. There is a strong aroma (and flavor) of malt and coffee. There is a hit of licorice in the finish. As the beer warms up a chocolate flavor appears. A delightful palate that is thick and interesting. The alcohol taste is a bit much, but perhaps aging would improve this aspect. This is a powerful beer that required a few drinks to "figure out". EricE (456), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 20, 2008 Thick black with a bit of a dark tan head. Lots of a malt and coffee and sweet licorice. A bit overpowered by the alcohol. Very good balanced flavor with sweet creamy coffee. Some chocolate and licorice. I actually didn’t even realize it was coffee flavored until I read the label more carefully. The coffee flavor is present but very subtle and not overpowering; I thought it was just coming from the malt. A bit two much alcohol flavor. Still an amazing beer. Maybe a little aging could soften it a bit and make it perfect. Angeloregon (2025), Portland, Oregon, USA
