joekfsu (120), Boardman, Ohio, USA May 16, 2008 #100. 25.4 oz bottle. Pours a thick black that is impossible to see through with a 2 cm tan foamy head that is slowly diminishing. Aroma is totally dominated by coffee with hints of malt and alcohol. Initial flavor is coffee heavy with a hint of chocolate that changes to a balance of previous flavors plus malts and a slight hop bite at the end. Ends moderately bitter, lasts, can feel the alcohol here. Tons of lacing, medium body, very light carbonation, and obvious alcohol hanging around. Drinkable, yes, best stout around, maybe, best I have tasted yet, absolutely.
djtimeless (43), Florida, USA Sep 7, 2008 Pours out black with small brown head. Smells of roasted coffee and grains. Taste chocolate, coffe, and molasses. Rich full-bodied stout.Has layers of flavors, complex. Crisp and clean finish with slight alcohol burn as warms. Great Imperial style. blklab2007 (538), Connecticut, USA Sep 6, 2008 750 bottle that I have stored away for four month myself after receiving fresh. poured into a snifter has a black color and a half inch brown head that took some vigor to produce. aroma has rich chocolate malt, lightly roasted bold coffee, alcohol, and some molasses sweetness. rich and chewy. mouth feel is medium full with light carbonation that is just enough to keep it from becoming too much. flavor has smooth dark and chocolate malt intermingling with the dark roast coffee. sweetness is just enough to fend off the bitterness underlying. the alcohol is certainly present but not overbearing being 12% and all. a touch of hops pokes in from time to time and the flavors grow as it warms but it stays smooth. a tasty treat that is very well done. mtjoseph (24), Murderapolis, Minnesota, USA Sep 4, 2008 Bottle. Nice dark pour with no head what so ever. Just a slight like ring of foam around the top. A fairly pleasant aroma of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Upon tasting, caramel really came to the forefront. Wish there was more of a coffee flavor, because it is masked a little bit by the bitterness of the chocolate and sweetness of the caramel. Overall, a fairly solid imperial stout, but a little over hyped. Frauditor (127), Hagerstown, Maryland, USA Sep 3, 2008 Big bottle at OTR thanks to devin. this one started a fire under the canopy. tried to put it out with multiple cans of coors with no luck. fredandboboflo (507), East Setauket, New York, USA Sep 3, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of alcohol, bitter chocolate, standard coffee. Flavor was coffee, the chocolate, and lots of very nice vinous qualities. Mouthfeel was a bit off for me, odd tingly carbonation, unusually clean for an impy, not at all rich and creamy, even when I tried to swirl out the carbonation that was throwing me off. All that vinousness reveals this beer to me as unquestionably worthy, but I can’t say I was nearly as impressed as a 4.35 would suggest.
