Nose of black coffee , molasses and bitter chocolate. Sweet flavour with coffee, raisins, prunes and roasted malt. Full bodied. Long malty finish with an alcohol bite. Just excellent.

While enjoying this stout I realized I wasn’t really blown away by any one thing, and soon understood that what makes this great is simply how well it’s made. Opaque dark, rich brown body with a diminishing medium brown head and streaky/spotty lacing. Coffee and chocolate aromas dominated by burnt, roasted malts. Exceptional feeling from this beer, drinkable and approachable. Very smooth with a nice dry finish. Flavors mirror the robust aromas. It was more like smelling my morning coffee than a pungent 12% imperial stout. Poured pitch black with little head. Aroma had mostly coffee with a small amount of the dark chocolate malt. Taste was overpoweringly coffee to the point that my palate was shot for the day. Couldn’t taste anything but coffee for the next hour. Definitely complex and nice to drink if that’s all you’re going to be drinking for the day. Too in-your-face for me. Dark brown/black with an aggressive dark coffee head. You definitely get the coffee in the taste and flavor, the rest and dark, sticky fruits like some boozy dates/figs. Shortish dark tan head sits atop a coffee colored body. Aroma is roasty and toasty coffee, and dark chocolate with some caramel-molasses sweetness. Also has a doughy quality and even some hints of pit fruit and vanilla. Full bodied, very thick and creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is coffee, roasted malts, caramel and resiny hops which linger on the bitter finish. The big alcohol is cleverly concealed. I’m not giving this my highest rating, but its certainly a top-notch concoction. I will see how this develops as I empty the bottle. I imagine the barrel aged version would be amazing. Wonderful chocolate and malt smell with slight vanilla notes. Smooth and full taste. Taste begins with roasted malt, moves to coffee and ends with a bitter dark chocolate. Pour is brown-black with a sticky tan head. Flavor has lots of dark fruits to it, cherry pits, more figs, floating above a dark chocolate malt base whose sweet spices (licorice, etc.) meld nicely with the alcohol heat. Full bodied, warm and lively on the palate. A very nice impy.
