GMCC2181 (846), Bear, Delaware, USA Oct 6, 2008 Updated: Oct 7, 2008Bottle from bigern! ( I think) thanks! Can any one answer this question: Does Alesmith make a bad beer??? Not in my opinion... Bottle Dark in color good head and good lacing. Aroma is close to an oak aged.. I swear it smells like oak and vanilla. Perfect creamy texture. I love that they bottle condition their beers... Taste is sweet, touch of alcohol but the sweetness takes over, also little bit of vanilla and oak. Malty, chocolate, smokey. Super smooth and easy to drink. I wish Alesmith was available in my area, I dont think I would drink anything else. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Oct 3, 2008 Updated: Jul 6, 2009 Source:750 mL bottle purchased at Anderson’s in Toledo.
Glass:Fuller’s Snifter.
Appearance:Deep mahogany pour with a two finger creamy, beige head that lingered.
Aroma:Almonds, butterscotch, heavy caramel, toffee and a touch of alcohol.
Flavor:Milk chocolate, toffee, caramel, dark fruits (figs) with a hint of warming alcohol on the end. Mild bitter finish.
Palate:Medium/full body with mild carbonation.
Overall:Aroma is excellent but the flavor doesn’t carry over the rich candy nose. The alcohol is well hidden. Excellent beer.
glkaiser (1150), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 19, 2008 Thanks to bitbucket tasting. Love the mix of caramel malts, dark fruit, and chocolate. Not overly sweet. Very smooth for 10%. wickedpete (625), Lexington Park, Maryland, USA Sep 11, 2008 Pours dark brown with a tall creamy tan head. Nice thick doughy, malty aroma with touches of tobacco, maple syrup, and vanilla. A bit of alcohol is present on the nose as well. Vanilla and maple flavor up front that shows a toasted smokiness through to the finish along with tobacco and caramel. I’m getting a bit of a metallic flavor in the middle as well. Full body without stickiness. Really enjoyable. coldbrewky (716), Saugerties, New York, USA Sep 7, 2008 Updated: Sep 8, 2008Magnum via Stefanje the Generous. Pours a deep ruby with hints of sienna. A thick tan clingy head stays put on top of this lovely brew and makes you stick your nose into it while quaffing this malty thick beer. Nose while being malty also has whisky mash tones that make one think of the highland mountains. (can you tell it was hitting me already and I didn’t even know it?)Body is not as full as I thought it was going to be. It is a creamy carmel. My head is spinng halfway thru this bottle. (I am now inbetween the anvil and hammer) Light whisps and mere suggestions of hops peek at the tounge. Lacing is uneven but pretty. (at this point my body shut itself off and forced me into nap mode).
When I woke I actually attempted to call Stefan the generous but my fingers could not work the phone. I finished off the magnum. The beer still had the remnants of a head after the hour and a half nap. A remarkable beer with a hell of a punch. Woo Hoo! BigBang (210), Indiana, USA Sep 7, 2008 Malt, malt, and more malt. This is one malty beer. Enjoyed. Nice mouthfeel. Lots of carbonation and lacing. As mentioned, color was deep brown with some translucency. Aroms and flavor was - surprise - malt. It’s not my favorite style but overall a good brew. BelgianBeerGal (1276), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 6, 2008 Poured from 75cl bottle at Alesmith dinner. Once again, I don’t have much experience with scotch ales but this was fantastic. Based on my experience I can’t really comment on how true to type it was but I really liked it. Yummy! Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 2, 2008 From bottle poured a deep dark brown body with a wispy tan head. Nutty, sweet, chewy aroma of dark fruits, premier grains, and caramel. Great thick, rich mouthfeel. Finished with appropriate spiciness and a thick rich coat on the tongue.
