One bottle of this brew could be shared among 5-6 people easily. It is very demanding but also very rewarding. Almost a bit too much of the malty goodness. Still, it makes a nice sipper! ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Jun 4, 2009 Bottled at Sorbon, Bromma, Sweden. Generously shared by Baresi. Pours out in a clear dark reddish brown colour with a firm lasting tan-coloured foam. Rich malty aroma of peat, fudge, anise, milky chocolate and tobacco. Full-bodied and chewy with velvety deep malty notes of toffee, peat, tobacco, cocoa, almonds and figs. Long chewy malty finish of cocoa, caramel, mild smoke, nuts and anise. Great stuff in small quantities. WVHouseofBeer (339), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA Jun 1, 2009 This really is a big beer. From the Mahogany colored pour, i could tell this near syrupy concoction was going to be special. Although I may have picked up a less than prime bottle, this Scotch Ale is the best of the style and one of the best beers have I have ever had. With a distinct malt character with a smoky aftertaste, this AleSmith brew is one to behold, though definitely leave the brewer’s yeast in the bottom, it can be a bit distasteful during the last few drinks. Way Wee Heavy! Bukowski9 (89), Piqua, Ohio, USA Jun 1, 2009 Bottle pour, dark red with a good beige head.Aroma was a sweet malt with caramel and some dark fruit hints.Sweet tasting, with toffee, caramel, roasted malts, with some hop hints.Alcohol warm is there but not overdone.Very nice brew. Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA May 29, 2009 Bottle courtesy of daknole. I shared this bottle with a group of guys whose experience with beer ranged from aspiring beer geek to complete novice. It received rave reviews from all. It poured a pretty burgundy with a large, fluffy, beige head that left sticky lace in its wake. The nose was sweet, dark and malty with a light peat malt note. Full-bodied and creamy with a drying and mildly bitter finish. The flavor was a solid, round, sweet and lightly peaty malt with an earthy hop addition at the finish. This is a very nice beer in every regard and is very different yet nearly as satisfying as its barrel-aged version. It is definitely a beer that I won’t hesitate to stock-up on if I find the opportunity. BeerVirgin72 (778), Pataskala, Ohio, USA May 23, 2009 From bottle. Poured a beautiful dark mahogany. Creamy tan head. Aroma was smokey and creamy. Flavor was WOW. Truly. Soft and sweet up front with hints of caramel and roasted malts. And as you sat and sipped it, the hops and slight bitterness came out. This was a very well blended ale. I have no idea why I have waited so long to drink this, and this will definitely be a staple now in my cellar. We enjoyed this while sitting outside with friends watching a bonfire and it was the perfect fit for that. Even our non craft beer drinking friend enjoyed this.
