| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 8, 2008 750 ml bottle purchased mail order from South Bay in Imperial Bay, California. Not sure age on this, though I purchased it from Joey on the May 29th, 2007. I believe this was a fresh bottle when I purchased it. Pour is dark mahogany with a tan 2 inch head. As the head retreats, it reveals nice lacing. Pretty beer. Aroma of big caramel bitter sweetness. Some peaty earthiness in there as well. Powerful nose. Taste is peaty, bittersweet chocolate chips and yeasty. Smoky too. Aftertaste reveals some alcohol burn. Some sea-saltiness in the finish as well. Tasty beer, though not as rounded and complex as the Flyers 140 Schilling I recently tasted. Palate is medium to full, quite mouth coating. BuckeyeBoy (1683), Boise, Idaho, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 14, 2004 Small tan head that just sits atop this very dark red hued brew. Malty, smokey nose with hints of licorice and toffee, faint alcohol notes as it warms. Full body, silky smooth mouthfeel. Medium sweet malts, caramel, chocolate, butterscotch, smokey, grainy with light whiskyish notes. Hops are evident surprisingly. Medium dry finish, lingering. A great beer expierence. Thanks much to sdbruboy for a chance at rating this creature. Thanks so much Cliff! Odeed (1679), Bakersfield, California, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 17, 2006 Another beer at my sisters 50th birthday celebration, and man this is just a great beer. Aroma is slightly smoky but any more of it would not have been good. Whiskey, chocolate, roasted chesnuts, and malt very prominent in the nose too. Appearance was dark, but clear with hints of brown. Mouthfeel was full bodied and sticky. Flavor was much the same as the aroma but there was an earthyness present that was interesting. I can see how this is one of the top rated scotch ale’s around. AleSmith does it up nice on this one. douglas88 (1670), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 21, 2008 Bottle shared by Eric, many thanks. Pours a rich ruby hue with a small head. The aroma is really sweet; malts, alcohol, peat, and fruity candy. The taste was really smooth, but also full; plum, butter scotch, rich smoked malts, a ton of flavor here, some earthy peat, and a bunch of candy and chocolates. Damn good. Well done again AleSmith.
