| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 21, 2008 Bottle shared by Eric, many thanks. Pours a rich ruby hue with a small head. The aroma is really sweet; malts, alcohol, peat, and fruity candy. The taste was really smooth, but also full; plum, butter scotch, rich smoked malts, a ton of flavor here, some earthy peat, and a bunch of candy and chocolates. Damn good. Well done again AleSmith. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 30, 2008 2006 bottle that I’ve been holding onto for a cold night - tonight will do. Nice looking plum color with a small head. Aroma has an incredible sugary-fruit sweetness. Lots of chocolate and fig with a bit of candi sugar. Flavor is sweet and fruity with a nice dose of hops at the end. Just like the aroma, only subdued. Nice, smooth mouthfeel. I think this one will taste as good as it smells with a bit more time - the best Wee Heavy/scotch ale I’ve had so far (can’t wait to try my BA bottle!). Another winner from alesmith! | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 17, 2009 Bottle courtesy of HogtownHarry- Thanks for this one Harry, I was able to share with several people including Milos, and the owner of the Keaton, Mark. All were quite appreciative, so thanks! A deep chestnut pour with some red hues. Nice beige frothy head leaves lots of lace. Nose is pretty intense. Lots of burnt caramel, dark fruit, wood smoke, spices, sherry, some vanilla. Tastes sweet and fruity, of burnt sugars, sweet sherry, vanilla, lots of smokey components, dark pit fruits, dark chocolate. Towards the end, this is assertively bitter, while being big and boozy, almost syrupy. Certainly a sipper. This was enjoyed by many, so thanks again Harry! Marsiblursi (1659), Göteborg, Sweden
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 13, 2008 (Bottle, thanks to whoever sent it – we are very thankful!) Pours dark brown with some dark red hints and a small sand coloured head. The aroma is medium sweet, heavily malty and light yeasty with tones of a mild roastiness, chocolate, caramel, nuts, light smoke, dark bread, vanilla, and mild brown sugar/molasses. Some soft dark fruitiness (prunes and rum-raisins) and just a whisper of floral/herb like hops. Hints of mint, mild pepper, blue berries and milk in the background. The flavour is very malty with tones of chocolate, caramel, nuts, dark bread, smoke, fudge and brown sugar. Bit milky, hints of cheese and some subtle spices in the background. Nice clean alcohol warmth is also present. Hints of hops. Medium sweet and light to medium bitter with some sourish notes in the finish. The mouthfeel is full, creamy, smooth, bit velvety, milky and light chewy. Near full bodied. A fantastic malt bomb that is perfectly balanced between all the different malts that’s used in this beer. We like! Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 24, 2005 Bottle courtesy of Footbalm in trade. Pours medium brown with little head. Aroma has some caramel but rather weak in general. Flavor very bland for a scotch. Has some sweet malt, and smoke and that’s about it. Too thin for the style. Rather surprised by the overall. We have a local scotch ale here in MI that blows this away. NachlamSie (1653), Tennessee, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 4, 2006 Bottle split with Muenster, Tronraner. Pours red/brown with a mild head. The lacing is spotty. The aroma is comprised of very hearty, oaken notes. It’s mildly chocolatey, smoky, and has pronounced vanilla scents. The flavor profile is well done filled with charred oak, tame vanilla, hints of pork chop drippings. The mouthfeel is just average, but the alcohol is decently hidden or perhaps simply blends so well with the rest. This started off on a very, very strong note, but became just a bit less exciting as I adjusted to the "just kind of big" flavor. None-the-less, this is certainly an excellent beer. wetherel (1641), Encinitas, California, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 22, 2007 Great, great, dense creamy lingering lacing head. Caramel color and sweet sweet caramel taste. One of my most favorite beers. A little expensive at $10/705mL, so I waited for a visit to Alesmith’s tasting room to rate this one. Again, excellent! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 7, 2009 750ml. Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a big three finger tan head that lasts and leaves nice lacing. The nose is toffee, caramel and smoky peat. The taste is caramel, dark fruits, brown sugar, citrus hops and a touch of booze. Medium creamy mouthfeel. I actually prefer the barrel aged version much better, but this awesome as well.
