Pours very dark brown with just a hint of red when held to a light. Aroma is black licorice and yeast. Head is big four fingered, and dissipates very slowly. Taste is anise, sweet molasses, roasted peanuts, moderate hops, and some dark bittersweet chocolate. Mouthfeel is award winning, very creamy, silky and smooth. Finish is long with some hops and more black licorice. I must have accidentally gotten into the Papal destined reserve because this is sacred, holy brew. Amen IvoR (30), New Jersey, USA

Aroma is very pleasant, of fruits, hops, and yeast. Flavor feels exactly the same as the aroma, only sensed with the tongue. Does not leave a lasting finish, but a nice warmth instead. Carbonation reminds me of a soft soda drink.
This is my first (good) scotch style ale and it feels really good. Though I start to feel the alcohol after the first few sips. GAManiac (1184), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

This one pours a very dark brownish copper that is almost completely opaque in the glass. The large tan head lingers as a cap throughout leaving sheets of lacing.
The aroma is big and complex and is dominated by the sweet, heavy caramel malts and brown sugar. There also plenty of dark fruits, raisins especially, and a hint of booze.
The taste is just as complex as the aroma. The malts again dominate from start to finish There is a much bigger hop presence than the smell would suggest, some earthy hops and a bit of citrus. Finish is a dark fruit sweetness with the hops and some toffee lingering in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel is crazy smooth, just silky. Lots of carbonation to accentuate the medium heavy body, keeping it from getting too cloying.
This is one of, if not the best wee heavy I’ve ever tasted. It’s big and complex, yet very drinkable. Another great brew from AleSmith. drowland (1418), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 13, 2009 The flavor is quite fruity and malty upfront with tons of traits (my roommate said it was a FIST full of flavor), including fruits, raisins, prunes, esters, etc. There is a hint of alcohol with slight dryness, as well as a bitter-hinting finish perhaps from the hops, or perhaps from the malt; I’m honestly not sure. I walked away breathing a StarBurst type fruity sensation down my throat, but good Adam77 (407), Eastampton, New Jersey, USA

Swells of raosted barley and vanilla. Sweet, almost toast like, yeasty flavor with hints of vanilla and brown sugar. Felt thick and creamy in the mouth. Overall...
