Commercial Description:

J.P. Gray's Wee Heavy Scotch Ale Scotland's bone-chilling winters command a strong, richly-flavored brew. J.P. Gray's Wee Heavy is such an ale. Named for Brewmaster Skip Virgilio's maternal grandfather, J.P. Gray's is a blend of the prized Maris Otter barley and dark roasted barley which imparts a slightly smoky flavor and a deep chestnut appearance. In the style of a classic Scottish wee heavy, this fine ale is remarkably smooth and malty with background flavors of chocolate and molasses. Warmth is provided by a substantial 9% alcohol by volume. The high alcohol and fresh ingredients allow this ale to age well over time. Appearance: Deep mahogany color, sparkling clarity, and excellent head formation and retention when properly served. Flavor: Deep caramelly malty flavor with just a hint of smoke in the finish. Aroma: The aroma is sweet and voluptuous, reflecting the flavor with malt, hop and yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Lush, full, rounded, almost chewy. This is a BIG beer!

Bottled. Hazy brown color, medium head. Aroma of some roasted and caramel malt, some hop, chocolat, hint of raisin. Malty taste, quite fruity, bit chocolat. All with the great balance of most alesmith brews. Nice.

Thanks to slikwily for the trade. Blackish Brown, tan head. Aroma of apples, pears, chocolate, and pine. Full and rich on the tongue. Flavors of coffee, walnuts, smoke, chocolate, and a hint of blueberry, maybe. Finishes with a slight alcohol burn and some oaky, woodsy flavors. Very tasty brew!

Nice brown bodywith an off-white/beige head. Aroma is rich sweet malts with a slight smokiness and nuts to go with a little chocolate and toffee. Dense malt flavour, some plum and date fruitiness with lots of chewy malts. A light alcohol presence with a little smokiness.

750mm bottle- pours a cloudy reddish brown color with a tan head. Aroma of caramel and brown sugar. Flavor is chocolate and some caramel and is quite warm to the palate. Chewiness was noted as this is not a timid beer. Once again Alesmith has delivered. Well done.

Reddish brown of color with a nice beige head. An aroma of chocolate, raisins and caramel. A flavor of chocolate, malt and weak bitter notes. A nice beer!

Bottle. Dark ruby brown in color with a small head. Aroma is strong malt, fruit, and alcohol. Flavor is very sweet and malty. A nice complex relationship of dried fruit and sweet malt. Full bodied and hard hitting. A beer that I will definitely have to revisit in order to fully appreciate.

750ml. Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a big three finger tan head that lasts and leaves nice lacing. The nose is toffee, caramel and smoky peat. The taste is caramel, dark fruits, brown sugar, citrus hops and a touch of booze. Medium creamy mouthfeel. I actually prefer the barrel aged version much better, but this awesome as well.
