Fantastic aroma with scotch, caramel malts, fruits and vanilla. Taste has a wonderful sipping quality to it with a wonderful caramel and scotch mouthfeel. Various fruits such as apple come into play in the palate. I was totally impressed with this. I’ll have more beers from the style and see how this matches up. | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jun 7, 2007 Appearance: Pouring out dark, chestnut brown with a head reminiscent of frothed milk. Alright, this starts off my inaugeral AleSmith experience!
Smell: Stongly sweet caramel malt aroma coupled with a limitless amount of peat and smoke. Touch of oak. Some dark fruits glazed in maple syrup.
Taste: Starts off with a clean maltiness which blends effortlessly with the peat and dark fruit flavors. Again, a bit of oak in the equation. A bit like a nice tawny port. The hops, though present, are restrained and unobtrusive, allowing for the dark, wine-like fruits and sweetness to dominate (though, at no point is this beer overly sweet). A little time and warmth help to coax out some additional flavors of cocoa and toasted vanilla beans. A litte more time brings out some fusel qualities.
Mouthfeel: Medium, and so very smooth.
Drinkability: Quite so. I feel "very good" is an understatement. I think it’s an *outstanding* beer, and one I thoroughly recommend. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 20/20 | Feb 14, 2006 Bottle purchased in Los Angles, CA. Pours to a deep caramel to brown color, with a thick, tan head, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer is sweet and malty, with lots of good aromas of caramel, pipe tobacco, and hints of butterscotch. The palate is soft and full with lots of big sweet and caramel malt flavor. This beer finishes with big sweet and caramel malt flavor up front, then ends with a warming, soothing burn that lingers with more sweet malt. A cloying, but delicious beer, with fantastic sweet malt character. Excellent Wee Heavy, and a wonderful beer to match with a rich desert, or a perfect night cap. Pours a transparent dark chestnut color. The aroma makes you imagine you are in the Highlands of Scotland. The smokey, sweet flavor is something like Scotch whiskey and molassas. I only wish it was distributed further so I could get my hands on it more often. malrubius (1002), Valley Stream, New York, USA

Smoky brown sugar wood earth aroma. Smoky oaky brown sugar molasses sweetness, mild fruitiness, dry woodsy smoky finish. Full body and medium-low carb. Excellent in every way. YES! | 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 28, 2008 Pours a wonderful dark brown with a purply red hue around the edges. Head is a creamy tan that lingers long into the drink leaving spotty lacing all over the glass. Nose begins roasty and bread crust like, foollowed by deep caramel malts and subtle smokey grape notes. the first sip is rich and complex. Smooth sweet malts roll over the tongue. Hints of rum raisns in caramel sauce blend with a mild smokey wood flavor. The alcohol definately makers its presence known, slightly hot, but adds to the complexity. The mouthfeel is definately thicker, which carriers the flavors well. This is definately one of my top tens. craftbeerdesign (759), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jul 31, 2009 Big thanks to Hopscotch for this....!!! Makes a perfect #600 for me...
750ml bottle poured into a big delirium snifter with plenty of room for the massive off tan 3 finger pillow head.... an absolute beauty.... dark and luscious. Aromas of dark fruit, sweet malt, and brown sugar... this is the one area that the beer could have delivered more for me - it just was not as powerful as I would have liked... I felt I needed to really seek out these aromas - but once I found them.... very nice. Big full body over the palate with a biting hop presence up front with extremely smooth sides... notes of raisin, plum, big juicy apple, brown sugar, sweet malts, and some lingering banana.... the finish is outstanding! A big burst of sharp bitterness up front with more spice on the sides and a splash of licorice throughout... a touch of alcohol lingers but doesn’t dominate the finish... Wee Heavy is a true beauty.... very excellent indeed.
