Commercial Description:
Our Weizenbock is a pale, golden color, and like a bottom-fermented bock, has a high starting gravity and high alcohol content. The smooth, malty sweetness of a Weizenbock is balanced with clove, honey and fruit-like flavors. A touch of honey is also perceivable in the nose to produce a unique and complex aroma. It has a medium to full body and mouthfeel. The wheat adds a subtle tartness, which makes for quite a quenching and refreshing beer.

Bottle at jeffc666’s Birthday Gathering. Courtesy of jeffin7. 99 vintage? Partcile laced amber. Nose is creamy malts, banana, and vanilla milkshake. Taste is creamy vanilla and banans with wheat and light caramel. Body is a bit thin with mild sticky sweetness. Finishes with more creamy malts, vanilla and banana with lighter hweat. Nice stuff! Too bad this isn’t made anymore.

Sampled at jeffc666’s gathering. 1999 bottle. Cloudy amber with a bunch of floating particles. Aroma is fruity. Taste has notes of caramel, molasses, wheat, some vague fruitiness that I had trouble identifying and some spice. Mouthfeel is full and round.

Pours caramel with a thin head. Aroma of light caramel, mild banana, and some spice. Flavor of caramel banana and slight spice. Was good but a bit mild possibly due to the age.

1999 Vintage (corked) picked up from Stuffed Sandwich by cquiroga : Rich amber color with some floaties. Head initially medium and light tan diminishing to a halo. Nose is rich honey and light spice. Flavor is honey sweet with over ripe fruit (plum), caramel, light spicy bitterness and a lingering syrupy, but wine like finish. Very full and rich palate. Alcohol well hidden by the richness, but makes it’s self known. Pretty damn good after all these years and worth the wait. Thanks to Chris for the trade. Peter, Tod...you gotta brew this beauty again!

RBSG Portland 2004. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, cookie), with notes of banana, dates, raisins, sherry. Flavor is heavily sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Full body, creamy/velvety texture, soft carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Showing its age (past its prime), but remarkably rich and thick (as expected for this brewery).

(5-year old 1999 bottle): Peace-inducing scotch ale spires tower above the cloves and citrus fruit on the ground…Heavy caramel formations and butterscotch outcrops defy the laws of style and soar splendidly, a marvel for all senses…Candi sugar, earthy tones and a smooth, gorgeous mouthfeel link the ground and firmament with inspiring class…Who else but hopsrus can bring us such American wonders?…Thanks again John!!…
