Commercial Description:
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

Tap @ the brewery. Pours a nice golden color with a medium-sized white head. Aroma is pine hops. Taste is the same with a slight malt characteristic. The beer is perfectly balanced, with the hops adding to but not taking away from the overall experience. Great beer.

Bottle shared by puzzl. Pours golden with some decent white head. Aroma is all piney hops, though not overbearing at all. Taste brings more of the same, all bitter and no real malt flavors stick out. Nice palate on this one and finishes bitter of course.

Clean, aroma with some lychee, pine, coriander - pretty much just the hops. Strong hoppy flavor is citrusy, a bit harsh, and not as complex as I felt the aroma would have me believe.

Bottle from FlacoAlto. Lightly hoppy aroma is clean and nicely balanced: well, in that there are almost no malt flavors at all, just as it should be. Slightly rough in the palate, with a rash of bitterness and a slightly minerally aftretaste. Pretty nice stuff, goes down easy.

Nice big beer. Mild citrus nose but a big grapefruit hop taste. Golden color with mild head. Medium lacing.

This beer is a dichotomy. On one hand, the aroma is fucking awesome. No beer in recent memory has smelled this good. On the other hand, the flavor is bland and soulless. Yet - the finish is both hoppy and biting, yet not overly so. Strange strange beer.

(bottle): Pours a golden somewhat cloudy yellowish color. Big foamy frothy white head with good lacing. Very bitter, dry piney aroma. Malty sweet on the end of the aroma. Sweet malty taste. A little hoppy on the end. A little dry. More sweet than hoppy. Warming up it’s a little more hoppy.

Sampled out of a 22oz. Pours nice and smooth with a head that sticks around. Has a nice malty base with really smooth textures. Worth a try for a non-big hoppy brew.
