Commercial Description:
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

The last time I had this was from a growler. It had a light golden color. Floral hop aroma. Very light bodied. Slight fruit (lemon) flavor was a characteristic as well.

Bomber. Poured clear, brighter golden with a well-retained creamy cap of creamy white head. The aroma was softer with dry light fruity notes, grapefruit, and pine.. nice. The flavor had a sweet grapefruit and other light fruity core with with dusty lemon zest and pine bitterness around the edges.. zesty lemon and dried floral bitterness on the finish. Creamy middle, with a very dry, great feel on the finish.. nice balance throughout. This would be a solid every-day drinker if available.

Pour is a pale gold and a bit cloudy. Has a big foamy head. Aroma of citrus and pine. Flavor is fresh, citrusy hops and nice malt balance. Very crisp and clean. Dry and quenching. Medium body. Another standout beer from AleSmith.

Very much IPA-lite. The opening sweetness is very quick but undeniable. The finish is long and clean. Very floral, very citrus peel. A great relaxing beer.

22oz bottle. Pours a tarnished, golden-honey color; fluffy white head with good retention and lacing. Pleasant, oily and resiny citrus hops in the aroma; some fruit and smooth hop oils. Lively zolt of citrus at the tip of the tongue; dry bitterness creeps in along the edges; medium-to-full mouthfeel, with a very clean, clear hop character (citrus, herbal); minimal astringency present; very drinkable, generously hopped pale ale. Lengthy, citrus hop and candy sugar in the finish.

Bomber. Hazy straw color with a huge head. Excellent retention, lots of foamy shapes. Aroma of sugary malt and citrus hops. Lighter hop flavor, with citrus and spices. Dry and hop spicy finish. Very nice.

Wow, to call this one of the best pales is a complete joke. Simultaneously one of the blandest and most overcarbonated beers I’ve ever had. Pours a cloudy orange with a huge bubbly white head. Smell is nice and of earthy and citrus smells along with some tropical fruit notes. Taste however is literally almost nonexistant. Extremely bland and the mouthfeel needs serious work. Tongue stripping carbonation, along with the fact that the beer turns to foam as it hits your tongue and froths immensely. In a blind tasting this would be thrashed. Like the bubbliest champagne you could imagine. Drinkable, but a far cry from what I expected from the Alesmith name, and there are better and cheaper pales in the local grocery store...
