Commercial Description:
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

Commercial description is very close. I’m not getting the sweet and sour effect and the carbonation is balanced as opposed to smooth. Rather than balance, the malt adds just enough sweetness, the hops are the show. Great pale. Great summer brew.

Thin white head. Pours a clear amber. Smells of hops, malt, and pineapple.Flavor has a eucalyptus element as does the aftertaste. Watery body but overall a pleasant beer.

Bottle. Aroma of pine, tropical fruit, malt, but a little grassy. Flavor is similar, not a great amount of malt and the hops are not as flavorful as anticipated. Pleasant bitter finish.

22oz bottle poured in a lager glass. This is a very nicely done beer. It has an initial aggressive hop taste that quickly mellows out and flows across your tongue like a pale lager thus saving it from being an IPA. This beer is refined and exceptionally balanced.

Bottle thanks to Saarlander: Pours a pale gold with a bit soft white head. Aroma, light citrus notes, bready malts, and some floral notes as well. Flavor, bready pale malts up front, with some lemon and spices. There is a floral, herbal, piny bitterness to it. Very smooth and refreshing. Good stuff.

22 oz bomber. Pours a hazy light yellow gold color with a thick white head. Aroma of faint floral and piney west coast hops. Taste is floral with hints of piney hops and mild citrus, leaning on grapefruit. Very good warm day beer and quite enjoyable.

On draft. Minimal head - not a great appearance. Nice mouthfeel and the taste was suprisingly bitter - great balance of hops and malt. Nice dry finish and soft carbonation. A nice beer - one you could drink a lot of if in the right mood. Refreshing.

650 mL bottle. Yellow amber with fine bubbles and a foamy white head. Hoppy aroma, crisp, bitter taste. Decent.
