Commercial Description:
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

Bottle given to me by the brewer himself. Thanks Peter! Dark yellow with huge meringue-white head dragging beautiful laces. Incredibly fresh and almost grassy hop aroma with notes of citrus rind, apricot and yeast. Flavor is dominated by hops and to start with it is also dry. As the beer warms, bright and crisp malt flavors are revealed supporting the exorbitant hop profile. On the palate the beer is a bit too fizzy for me, and more like a Belgian ale than a English pale ale (it may be due to extra attenuation from the bottling yeast during 7 weeks it was under way with US Mail). Palate is light as expected by a beer with such modest alcohol strength and dryness. Long bitter and dry finish which lasts for minutes. A wonderfully balanced US pale ale which is extremely refreshing and thirst quenching.

22 oz bomber. I’ve had this a few times, and the bottle in my fridge really wanted to be rated so I said sure. Pours a light straw yellow with a large puffy white head. Nice aroma part hops part malt, a lot of malt scent for a beer this light. Taste is lightly bitter closer to the hoppy side then the malty side. Light citrus notes are noticeable as well. Probably my least favorite Alesmith beer, but then I like em all.

Rating #300... I received this bottle of AleSmith X from my uncle on the West coast. Thanks James! -- This beer pours a pale golden yellow color with a slight haze. The carbonation is lively and fun to watch - it spirals upward from the bottle of the glass. There is a HUGE fluffy near-white head that collapses slowly and leaves a thick, foamy crown and fine, web-like lacing. The aroma is sweet and smells of light pineapple mixed with some pine and a little yeast. The flavor is an interesting blend of banana, some citrus, and some doughy malt. The crisp, clean pine-like bitterness really hits in the finish, but it isn’t overpowering. The mouth feel is light and pretty fizzy. I thought this was another solid brew from an awesome brewery. It isn’t as good as some of their other phenomenal beers, but it definitely has it’s place and complements the Cranberry & Pepper Boursin cheese and pita chips that I am enjoying with it! -- 12 oz bottle, gift from uncle.

Aroma of sweet malt with muted pine resin - like the IPA but toned down a bit. Appears a pale but brassy yellow with notable effervescence, and with a creamy white head. Flavor is well-balanced with bready malt notes underlying western hops, and finishing with a pleasant residual sweetness. Palate is medium to medium-light ad very refreshing. Overall, greater than my expectations and a thoroughly enjoyable brew.

Bottle. I really enjoyed this pale ale. Very light in appearance and taste for a pale ale. Aroma was of hops, some malt, and citrus. Good palate. Taste was a nice gentle mix of citrus, hops, and a caramel malt. Very easy to drink and very refreshing.

Well, this is a pale ale that is actually quite pale. It looks like a lager. Good hoppy aroma. The taste has some funky malty/nutty characters that aren’t so good, but it has a nice hoppy finish.

Aroma is nice, earthy, but not incrediblly strong. Pours golden, not too much head, some nice lacing. Flavor is awesome. Absolutely delicious. Very complex, with citrus and pine hitting up front, with a nice caramel finish. Relatively full body. Very nice APA.

22oz bomber. Clear golden color with bright white head. Crisp citrus hop aroma with a bit of lemon too. Taste just as it smells. Nice crisp hop flavor with citrus, grapefruit and maybe lemon. Some light pale malts come in to add balance.
