Commercial Description:
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

Bottle. Pours the color of apple cider. Medium white head. Smells citrusy and hoppy with a tinge of malts. Tastes pretty light - the malts start and the hops finish this beer. Slightly sweet finish. Smooth, almost creamy mouthfeel.

Bottled. Pours gold with just this side of a copper hue. Big frothy white head. Slightly malty aroma with some lemon grass and citrus notes. Decent malt character with some citrus and dusty hop notes. Finishes very clean and quick.

22 oz bottle, via trade w/ Fordest. Poured a hazy straw with average sized white head. Decent retention till the end. Light citrus hop aroma over a lightly malty nose. Nicely balanced flavor, a little lighter on the malt vs. the hops. Lighter bodied and creamy on the palate, moderate carbonation. Overall a nice Pale Ale, very drinkable. After entering this from my notebook I read the commercial description at the left and that really says it all, very accurate.

hazy golden color, small but decent white head that had a good hang time then faded to leave nothing behind. The aroma was citrusy grapefruit and some grainy notes. The flavor was pretty good lightly malty with a strong grapefruit side and the bitterness is medium at best but very nicely done over all.I don’t think these guys have ever made a bad brew, and so far so good on my sampling’s of there stuff.

Hazy honey golden colored liquid with a tall airy off white head. Crushed grapefruit aromas, complete with zest. Lightly woody pale malt and clover honey in the backdrop. Light and tingly on the front of the palate with lots of effervescence to carry it swiftly to the back of the mouth. Lots of pine and sharp citrus flavors start at the tip of the tongue as well. Mild malt and herbs come in mid swallow. Seems a touch thin at times with the eff and minor malt flavor role. This really has to set in the glass a bit to reach its best qualities. When it warms and looses some carbonation, the I get a real ale feel and taste. A well brewed beer either way. Thanks Vac!

Thanks Blake, Pours a slightly hazy golden color, decent sized frothy white head. Aroma is lemon, straw and a little spice. Just a bit of funk and hoppiness to it. Flavor is very balanced, easy to drink, lemon, a little more spice.

The beer pours to a huge rocky creamy white head atop a fizzy golden orange body. Decent lacing. The aroma is tangerines, light starting to ferment hay, grapefruit. The flavor is sweet. Citrus, pine, fermenting hay. I’m liking the flavor. The palate is lingeringly sweet but not sticky. This is a quality made brew.

22oz bottle via trade with FlacoAlto - Thanks Sebastian! - Pours a deep golden color with a short white creamy head that stays pretty well and laces some. Aroma is mostly citrus. Notes of grapefruit and tangerines blend well with caramel malts. Flavor is much the same. Very balanced and smooth on the palate. Medium bodied and quite drinkable.
