Pour is copper with some brewer’s yeast and a strong white head. Aroma is citrus with grain and pine. Taste is impeccable. Slight hops with citrus balanced against the malt. Not the astringent bite of Sierra Nevada, but a lingering finish. Very refreshing. Schultsc (486), Henderson, Nevada, USA

Understated grainy malt flavors with pronounced but balanced hops bitterness leads into a nice crisp body with refreshing light alcohol profile. A very harmonious beer in every regard. Pushes the limits for an American pale ale. Well done. piscator34 (1134), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 24, 2005 Light gold/copper in colour with a pale white head. Powerful aromas of white grapefruit, cut grass, and some undetermined spice. Some light malt flavors mix in with this hop dominated brew... more sour citric notes shine through (orange, grapefruit, lemon... WOW!). This one is light bodied, but still packs a huge flavor punch. Lingering yet smooth bitterness too. Probably the best of this style that I’ve sampled. zug4abby (287), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 19, 2005 i have absolutely no idea how this beer pours because it was enjoyed out of a paper cup in a hotel room! i think it poured a copper color with a small head and moderate amount of lacing. Very good aroma and flavor with hints of hops, pine and citrus through-out. Fairly light and very enjoyable!!! AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 14, 2005 This is an excellent pale ale that should be used as a measuring stick to compare others. I find this beer to be pretty much flawless, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. But at the same time, there’s nothing that makes it really stand out or set itself apart from any other decent pale. Excellent beer, but there are plenty better. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 12, 2005 This is my new favorite session beer. Light and crisp with a strop balance of malt and hop. Low SRM, with a slight copper coloring, looks more like a light IPA than your typical pale ale. AleSmith X has a wonderful aroma of fresh pine and citrus with sweet fruit nectar infused malt the background. The flavor is lightly sweet, a bit bready and then well balanced with earthy hop character, citrus and pine. Light on the palate with soft carbonation and a dry finish. This is a really easy drinker, I would love to try it on cask. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 11, 2005 Now THIS is a pale ale. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm west coast yumminess. nice wet mellow hops in the aroma. no acidity or astringency in the aroma. smells like beer ice cream. some pine, grain, and some orange aromas. the flavor is just like the aroma, with a nice creamy mellow mouthfeel. nice malts and sweet citrus. some carbonation that compliments instead of over powers. lots of good hops but no bitterness which is fantastic. i will dream of this as my ideal pale ale. damn impressive. wunderbier (1271), Tampere, Finland
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 10, 2005 Thick, creamy, frothy, white head. Slightly hazy copper hue. Lots of ’texture’ in the appearence. Huge fresh hop aroma. Spruce, orange, and apricot mostly. Raw malt sweetness in the aroma with some bread and peaches as well. Moderately sweet, lightly bitter, lightly acidic flavor. Lightly sweet, moderately bitter finish. Medium body, watery (almost velvety) texture, lively carbonation. Fnord!
