Commercial Description:
AleSmith X Extra Pale Ale is a clean, light-colored, light-bodied ale. The People's Choice award winner at the 2000 San Diego Real Ale Festival and the second runner-up in 2001, it has a good dose of dry hops balanced by a gentle sweetness, giving an almost sweet-and-sour effect. Appearance: Light golden color, and a nice white head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with almost tingling flavors of citrus and pine, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness. Aroma: Strong lemony-citrusy character, with sweet malt and pine in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, light-bodied.

This one just didn’t impress. 10 karat pour produced a white meringue head that stayed throughout the sip. Moderate citrus, grapefruit rind, lemon zest, and malt both in the nose and flavor. Thinner than expected...seemed watered down. Not a favorite.

22 oz bottle poured a yellow in color with hefty streaming carbonation and a one finger white foamy head that retained well. aroma has light citrus peels, grapefruit, mild sweet malt, and a tiny bit of bitterness. light body leads into the hoped side, citrus, pines, and light bitterness. malt is just enough to lend some body and the sweetness is light allowing the hops to shine. I poured the bomber into a 22 oz. glass and this was real easy to drink down.

22oz bottle. Gold with a big rocky white head that lasts until the end and leaves lots of chunky lace. A great looking beer, though that’s partly due to the fact that it’s a little over-carbonated, but that’s bottle conditioning for you. The aroma caught me a little off-guard. Not the citrus and pine I was expecting, but lots of peaches vanilla along with some caramel. There is some grapefruit and spice, but they are buried in there. The flavor starts with some soft pale malt, balanced by a healthy and spicy bitterness. The hops are fruity with peaches, tangerines, pineapple, ans some grapefruit. Lighter feel and dry in the mouth with a little too much carbonation. Quite hoppy for a pale ale, and on the bitter side of balance, though very drinkable at the same time. I haven’t had their IPA in a while, but I may like this better.

6 fl.oz. bottle. Pours a clear gold. Big head that disipates slowly. Nice hoppy head. Light hop taste, light alkaline after taste. Definite session beer.

Bottle. Thanks to LooseCannon! Light and refreshing with a nice hop aroma. Excellent citrusy hop flavors. Great beer 80+ degree days.

Served cold from 22 oz. bottle. Very gold in color with a sticky, big white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of citrus and light hops. Flavor is citrus with hops and very mild malty notes. Goes very well with this spicy chipotle chips, but I’m not sure I would return to it in the future for thirst quenching.

22 oz bottle, poured into a tulip. Color is clear gold/straw color with small white head, leaves nice lacing. Aroma is of citrus and floral hops, and some sweet malt. Taste of pine, lemon/orange citrus, and mildly sweet malt. Mouthfeel is very crisp with strong carbonation. Very quenching and smooth, great beer!!

22 oz bottle. Clear straw with a puffy white head. Nose is orange, lemon basil and dough. Crisp with sharp carb, medium light. Taste is orange, lime and honey reminding me of grapefruit soda. Just the right amount of bitterness but could be a little fruitier. It’s making me crave their IPA.
