Sep 2, 2007 THANKS to Hellbilly for this Gem! Pours hazy orange with thick frothy head that disapates from 3 to 1 finger in about 10 minutes. lots of thick spotty lacing. Nice orange zest and hop aroma. nice floral flavor with a slight hint of vanilla on the finish. Very refreshing. alcohol well hidden.

Sep 1, 2007 (Bottle, thanks to WeeHeavySD) Pours light hazy, light orange amber. Juicy hops up front in the aroma with tones of citrus, mostly grapefruit and orange but also some pine and a light touch flowers. Light malty tones such as caramel and toffee. Also some English fruit cake, strawberry jam, stale spices, vanilla and some exotic fruits like mango, canned pineapple and dried apricot. Big citric grapefruit flavour with a peppery green pepper tone and a decent caramel malt base. Alcohol comes through both in the aroma and in the flavour as a nice boost. Finish is dry and bitter, very bitter. Harsh, yet smooth mouthfeel. Medium full bodied. Clean and without any “off” tastes to speak of, typical AleSmith style.

Aroma is moderately sweet, grapefruit/pine, floral, some caramel, light cherry, mango. Taste is moderately sweet, pineapple/grapefruit, some caramel, light cherry. Some alcohol. Sticky medium-full body.

Aug 31, 2007 Updated: Mar 31, 2009Thanks to kmweaver for sharing this bottle of 2007 Yulesmith. It has a very bubbly, glowing orange sun-burnt red colored body, moderately effervescent, with columns of bubbles rapidly floating to the top of the glass. Has an amazingly rich and hoppy/dank fruity nose of overripe oranges, mangos, and grapefruit, with a heavy maltiness (imperial red-ish), that actually is the problem I find with this beer. The hop profile is spot on, but the body is too malty and it tends to distract from the hops. Almost seems like it has some light oxidation, with some floral olive flavors showing up, but that could just be me. Regardless, it’s a solid hop monster but I think it could do without the heavy grain bill.

Aug 30, 2007 Beer pours lightly cloudy golden color with a totally retained off white head. Lots of piney hops in the nose; rather one dimensional in that respect, but in a good way, IMO. Taste is quite bitter, with significant citrus hoppiness, also more biting hoppy bitterness in the dry finish. Pretty spicy too. Yum.
