Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Jul 25, 2007 Clear deep orance color with a thick, eggnog like head. Great lacing. Huge hay aroma with pine, resin and citrus. Clean, full bodied flavor with grapefruit and pith. Finishes very clean and somewhat dry...pithy aftertaste. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Jul 25, 2007 22oz bomber, no date. Hazy orange caramel with a big ’ol creamy offwhite head that lasted until the end, a thick curtain of lacing with only a few holes as I drank my glass, quite a lot of carbonation throughout. This has what I consider the classic IIPA aroma--pine, grapefruit, and caramel malts up front. There’s a bit of bit of pineapple and misc. citrus digging deeper. Flavor Is much the same except the hops get a little more perfumey. Bitterness ends up around a 6 (out of 10) at its peak, kept in check by a good amount of caramel sweetness. Burps citrus and pine needles. A bit overcarbonated with a medium body. With the exception of just a little bit of overcarbonation, this is a very solid IIPA and what I would compare other IIPAs to--it isn’t the best I’ve ever had, but very good nonetheless. xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Jul 25, 2007 Thanks to Dr Matt.
I completely forgot to rate this.
Anyway, from my memory, what I remember is that it was yummy. it poured a nice copper/amber color with a white foamy head. Very crisp with a great aroma and residual grapefruit and floral bitterness. Taste was mostly of citrus and floral. I did not pick up much vanilla. It was a good DIPA, but I have had better. cbeers21 (563), Miami, Florida, USA Jul 25, 2007 Gold/copper with billowing head and nice lacing. Grapefruit, pine, pineapple floral hops to smell. A hoppy offering with quiet citrus fruits to taste, grapefruit, orange and a piney warming sensation with a slight touch of alcohol. Hides the high abv well. This is a well-bodied bruiser of a beer riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jul 23, 2007 A huge grapefruit aroma on tops of a orange golden beer. Flavor is sweet malt initially followed by a huge grapefruit backbone. This beer is very sweet, yet very bitter. Very dry and resiny finish. My only complaint about this beer is that it is a little too candy sweet in the malt. But I really love the intense hoppiness that kills that sweetness. SamuraiArtist (292), portland, Oregon, USA Jul 22, 2007 Bottle: Pours a deep rich golden and slightly hazy color. White head. Aroma is slightly malty but over the top hops and pinyness and a little citrus. Flavor is about the same but with even more pineyness. Tons of pine, some grapefruit and a good malty backbone but the hoppyness is intense and overpowers. Excellent flavor that really highlights the hops, lacking balance but thats not necessarily a bad thing. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 20, 2007 Updated: Oct 11, 2007Thanks to bmartin08 for this bottle of 07 summer yule - Cloudy golden-amber pour with a pretty large whitish head. Big floral-citrus sweet aroma with a nice fresh-batch-O-hop aroma that is thick and enticing. Taste is a really nice floral-citrus mix of hops with just a bit of quality malt that makes it quite enjoyable. Wonderfully hoppy is the best way to describe it. padrefan98 (787), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Jul 20, 2007 Updated: Aug 1, 2007On draft at O’briens. Dead on in flavor for me. Another A++ beer for Alesmith.
Re-rate bottle 22 oz. This is an awesome example of what I think a Double IPA should be. Grapefruit and a strong hop presence in the taste. Awesome brew!
