DalzAle (473), Eden Prairie, Minnesota, USA Jul 26, 2009 Bottle bonus from Snojerk321 (Thanks!). Clear golden orange/yellow pour with very little carbonation. Very well balanced aroma of sweet hops, apricot, malt and vanilla. Flavor was plenty of malt, biiter hops (not overpowering, almost sweet), and finished citrusy and lighter than expected. Solid DIPA, I can’t wait to get some more of this! EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Jul 26, 2009 Very bubbly with a hazy yellow-orange color. Thin white head. Malty grain aroma with lots of citrusy hops. Very bitter with intense hop flavor. Grapefruit notes. Phillies2008Champs (26), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 25, 2009 Thanks to my wife’s uncle Bill, I received two bottles. Just opened the first bottle. Every thing I love about a great west coast double IPA. Pours light orange to straw color with a cloudy hew. First sip is strong with hops and flavors of grapefruit, lemon rind, and pine. Malt is present but definately plays a second to the great hop flavor. The beautiful hops linger is a terrific way. Love this stuff. Wish I could get it here in PA. JaBier (1130), Capital City, Ohio, USA Jul 22, 2009 Bought a bottle on 7/16/09 and drank it that night. Haven’t had a fresh one of these since ’07. Cloudy orange pour with a big off-white head. Tons of orange in the nose with some pine, grapefruit and sweet malt. Orange and pine flavor up front with sweet malt and a bitter grapefruit finish. Amazing. Gypsy19 (601), California, USA Jul 20, 2009 Pours a pastel orange with a large white head. Aroma is very crisply of piney, grapefruity hops and other light-colored fruit. Flavor is very nice, with more emphasis on the hops than malt. Very crisp again, those hops shine through very brightly with cannabis and pine/grapefruit juice flavor. Creamy, full mouthfeel. Overall, excellent. Bigmmartin (366), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jul 20, 2009 [Rating #300] Ok I hadn’t planned on drinking this one for my 300th but I couldn’t find anything else around town that interested me and this beer just hit the shelves. I’ve been wanting to try it for a long time. It’s a small disappointment, given it’s reputation. The hop aroma is not quite as strong and distinct as other DIPAs. The flavor is better than the aroma though. It’s grassy and a little fruity. The finish is quite bitter, and also dry. A wonderful IPA no doubt, but not quite up to par with Dreadnaught, Pliny, etc. Still enjoyable and I’m happy to try this one. mspindler (301), Alta Loma, California, USA Jul 20, 2009 Bottle purchased with dinner at Stone Sour Fest 09. Pours a cloudy golden color with a large frothy white head that laces nicely. Aroma is a super fresh hop attack of mostly pine then citrus. Flavor is equally as huge and fresh. Tons of grapefruit, pine, and ridiculously bitter. A slightly sweet malt background with some fresh fruits and bread. Perfect medium to full palate with moderate carbonation. I weep thinking about it. ksurkin (354), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Jul 19, 2009 bomber from south bay drugs, 2009 bottling. pours a beautiful, slightly hazy, perfect gold with a modest, bright white head and great lacing. aroma is absolutely wonderful and the perfect example of pure citrus hops with notes of pink grapefruit, tangerine, and lemon zest with hints of sweet vanilla, fresh flowers, and ginger snap malts. flavor is truly worthy of the word "perfect". huge, bitter citrus hop notes of juicy grapefruit and orange are elegantly balanced by slightly sweet notes of tropical fruit, vanilla, and light, biscuity malts with a touch of brown sugar leading to a wonderful, lingering, dry, bitter and citrusy hop finish. palate is juicy and medium bodied with a smoothness not found in other DIPAs. overall, a world class brew.
