radiomgb (1920), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2006 Updated: Oct 3, 2006Orange-amber in colour, large long lasting off-white coloured head, great lacing. The aroma is of powerful hops, lots of grapefruit, orange and pine, some caramel malt sweetness. The flavour was very hoppy, lots of citrus (grapefruit), lots of pine, great caramel malt balance. Thick and chewy mouthfeel, medium/large body, high carbonation. Finishes long and dry, intense hops. Excellent stuff.
650ml bottle obtained in a trade with DarkElf, thanks Stephen. 2004 Edition.
dennishopper (1), USA does not count Sep 28, 2006 this is my favorite beer. Ever since this wonderful beer was released I have a hard time selecting beer...nothing will come close! Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA Sep 28, 2006 22oz July 04 release-Not much has changed in the flavor from the winter 03 version, but what did change was the balance and palate. This beer is wonderful. I have to bump the score up a little on this one. I will definately update my rating here, but I think i dig this summer version a little more than the winte (even though i gave it the same rating). due to the break in the 2 versions, i have to revisit both of them! zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Sep 27, 2006 Thanks to CMUBEERMAN. Bottle. Pours hazy orange gold, off white head. Aroma is caramel, citrus, floral, hops. Flavor is the same with spicing: caraway and rye. Excellent. OldGrowth (1407), North Carolina, USA Sep 24, 2006 2006 Bottle, from my last visit to Julio’s before I left Mass (sniff, sniff). Good nose, sweet. Caramel, vanilla. Kind of a toasty grain to it. Butter, not in a bad way though. orange, grapefruit. Clean brownish orange color, Massive head that needed a while to go away. Not sure if it was just residue from the head or it if had good lace too. Bitter flavor, Grapefruit, though not a biting type, Sour, Hint of a yeasty nuttiness. Medium to thick body, smooth oily mouthfeel, bitter finish. Huh, this falls into the sum is less than the whole of it parts(However you say that) Seemed like this was more amber than ipa to me. This was the one I packed in my luggage so maybe that explains it massive foam. I dunno. Tasty enough, didn’t grab me like some of Alesmiths other offerings. Oh well. MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA Sep 23, 2006 cloudy off brownish copper color w/ a huge frothy off white head well laced. Well hopped graapefruit & lemon zest aroma hints of flaked barly some light spices maybe corriander & hints of bread. Palate is full well coated & lightly creamy. Flavor is a full matl quite swet hints of carmel, touches of vanilla and well hopped w/ some subdued grassy notes. Very good. temporrari (327), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 23, 2006 2006, blue and red bottle summer batch. This is the best double IPA. Just incredible. I don’t really need to tell you what it tastes like, look, it’s double IPA as I think it should be. You know what this style is all about and this is it. sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 22, 2006 summer 2006 bottle. drank 3 weeks after bottling. decent appearance, i like the color but it’s totally transparent and the head is kinda ugly. aroma is good hops and some caramel. could be stronger, but it’s also a little cold. definitely the hoppiest tasting alesmith i’ve ever had. kinda a biphasic flavor profile, caramel and a little fruit in the beginning, later a wave of massive bitterness. now that it’s warmed a bit there’s almost a little vegetable in the flavor.
