sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 22, 2006 summer 2006 bottle. drank 3 weeks after bottling. decent appearance, i like the color but it’s totally transparent and the head is kinda ugly. aroma is good hops and some caramel. could be stronger, but it’s also a little cold. definitely the hoppiest tasting alesmith i’ve ever had. kinda a biphasic flavor profile, caramel and a little fruit in the beginning, later a wave of massive bitterness. now that it’s warmed a bit there’s almost a little vegetable in the flavor. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Sep 22, 2006 Bottle. Pours to a nice hazy caramel/copper colored body with a tall foamy white head. The aroma is quite fruity with lemons and grapefruit taking the forefront. Flaked barley malts. The flavor is extremely malty. Barley, granola, some bitter oily hops. The palate is really full. Balanced oily/resiny hops and a rich mouthfeel. Pretty damn good. IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA Sep 21, 2006 Bottle pours a cloudy light orange/amber. Very nice creamy white head. Aroma is mainly light sweet malts. Honey and light brown sugar. A slight cardboard papery note also. Flavor is more of the woody paper hints from before. Quite surprised this is a IIPA as the big brash hoppines is conspicuously absent. Nice rich full malt profile but I realy mis that bright citrusy hop flavor. A couple factors make me think that this might be an old bottle or possibly light struck a bit.Overall decent but not sure of the top 50 status. Thanks to <!-- B -->Buckeye for sharing this one
pinkzambia (986), Boise, Idaho, USA Sep 21, 2006 22 oz. BottleCloudy goldish copper with a white fzzy head. Interesting aroma - dominant hops seem to be hidden from the aroma and more of a light, sweet aroma of herbal cologne. The flavor seems to be a bit off for an IPA or 2 IPA for that matter. It has flavors of cardboard, something a little sweet (I am having trouble identifying it), and hairspray. It has an average body that has a smooth finish. I guess I expected more from AleSmith. Thanks to Bizzle BuckeyeBoy. BuckeyeBoy (1645), Boise, Idaho, USA Sep 21, 2006 Bottle Pours out a nice amber topped with a tall off white head. Aroma of light hops and some sweet. Doesn’t tast as strong as a double. asteele8 (270), Mukilteo, Washington, USA Sep 20, 2006 Bottle. Pours full of carbonation. Creating a huge white head on top of a hazy copper colored beer. This head is slowly dissipating and very creamy. Aroma is chock full of hops! Citrus hops come out the aroma mostly. The aroma is absolutely fantastic. This defines what an IIPA should smell like. Flavor is hops, malts, pine, caramel, and floral hops. The mass amounts of hops are definitely balanced out big time with caramel malts. Very smooth beer. Easy on the palate and very enjoyable. Now to obtain the Winter version! Kiapepito (111), Port Angeles, Washington, USA Sep 19, 2006 smells good, very hoppy, and of pine. hazy amber color, and hoppy tasting. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Sep 19, 2006 Body is a dark amber, with a thin off white head. Aroma is a heavy dose of northerwestern hops, along with caramel. Taste is a nice hop balance along the caramel, alcohol, and a bit of numbness.
