Hazy orange pour with a floral hoppy citrus aroma. Hoppy bite up front with a malty alcohol finish but blended really good. An incredible IPA !!!!!! Probably one of the best IPA. I have had to date. Sweet, sweet toffee nose, happy biscuity malt taste followed by mild citric hops. NOT overbalanced. Luscious mouthfeel. Tad mouthpuckering as the hops give a nice clean bite to the aftertaste. This is *gorgeous.* Thank you Eyedrinkale! HAVE I MENTIONED THE GINGERBREAD? GINGERBREAD! Eeee! I love this beer! pinkzambia (989), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 21, 2006 22 oz. BottleCloudy goldish copper with a white fzzy head. Interesting aroma - dominant hops seem to be hidden from the aroma and more of a light, sweet aroma of herbal cologne. The flavor seems to be a bit off for an IPA or 2 IPA for that matter. It has flavors of cardboard, something a little sweet (I am having trouble identifying it), and hairspray. It has an average body that has a smooth finish. I guess I expected more from AleSmith. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 18, 2009 bottle. pours a murky orange with a white head. nice lace. aroma of toffee, sweet honeydew, booze. This was a 3.5 months old bottle. definitely past its prime. seems like a lot of the hop character has been lost. not bad, but more of an american strong ale with out the hops. a bit boozy. will rerate once i track down a fresh bottle next year. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 16, 2008 Found out this was a 2007 bottle after the fact. Thought I had gotten a fresh 2008 bottle but alas I was mistaken. The pour is a dull copper color with some light cloudiness to it, a sticky off-white head that was creamy and produced good lacing all the way down the glass. The aroma was mild pine, floral and thin citrus. A bit of tea as well. Some light caramel maltiness. The flavor was pine, floral and malt with plenty of dry tea. I tend to associate that dry tea flavor with IPAs and DIPAs that are past their prime. The mouthfeel was nice and the finish was bone dry. Definitely want a do over once the ’08 is released. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 21, 2005 Pours a slightly hazy deep orange amber. Tall frothy white head. Spicy and floral hop aromas with evident malty sweetness as well. Some malt sweetness in the nose, followed by pungent spicy hop character. Big bitterness that bleeds into a cloying astringency. Finish is a malty heaviness with residual floral hop tones. Mouthfeel is on the heavy side of medium, rather sticky. axilla (962), New Providence, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 24, 2004 Dark amber-orange body with a fluffy tan head. Citrusy hop nose. Great hop flavor through and through. Really nice thick maple and carmel malt taste helping to tame those hops just right. Alcohol flavor is hidden very well while being followed up with a nice warming in the finish. Most Incredible Brew!!
