yespr (11645), Copenhagen O, Denmark Apr 2, 2009 22 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy deep amber to clear, depending on level of the bottle when pouring as there are yeast sediments. Aroma is mild liqourice, pinewood hoppy with a light roasted caramel malt note. Sweet and distinct bitter with a light acidic to citric touch. Mild roasted malt presence on the back of the tongue. Ends dry, bittered and slight spiced. Good balance between body and bitterness into the finish. Lasting mild citric fruity note. crazyvin (1246), New York, USA Apr 1, 2009 poured a rich mahogany color with a tan head that had great retention and lacing. Aroma had rich sweet brown sugar notes along with some spicy notes. A nice hop profile throughout. Flavor had a good hop presence with mostly sweet malt notes but a subtle yeast quality to it. Certainly did not seemed like 9.5%. Finish was smooth. BroSpud (584), , Massachusetts, USA Mar 25, 2009 22oz bottle. By the name of this one I was expecting a spicy winter warmer type closer to a barley wine but what we have here is a nice tasty double IPA. Good copper color with a creamy head and nice lacing. Excellent flavor with nice hop presence. Can’t wait to try some more from Alesmith. BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Mar 21, 2009 Clear amber with a creamy brown head. A strong piney hop flavor with caramel malts. Creamy mouthfeel. A strong hop aroma with a mild malt for balance. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA Mar 18, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours dark red with a thick creamy tan head. Nose is slightly hoppy but dominated by toffee and cinnamon notes. Flavor is very balanced. Starts out quite sweet with caramel malt, some cinnamon spice, nutmeg, a little cherry pit and finishes with a blast of piney hops. Ending caramel and vanilla notes. Complex and awesome. IPAGargoyleGuy (139), Troy, NY, New York, USA Mar 16, 2009 Wet, sweet and sticky hops balanced by a ton of sweet, cherry, candy malt. The only Alesmith I’ve been able to get my hands on, but I can tell I need more from here. thefrutigers (100), , Arizona, USA Mar 15, 2009 bottle 22oz: Pours deep clear red with a cread thick head. Smells heavy of citrusy piney hops. Flavor matches the smell beautifully and ends bitterly, but nice. Nice alcoholic balance. Full of great smells and flavors, and very complex in taste. Most enjoyable.
41cubs (131), , New Jersey, USA Mar 11, 2009 This beer induces a state of sedated excitement for me. The aroma and flavor are so harmoniously balanced that it feels like a big wow beer and like comfort food simantaneously. Smells like Brachs caramel candy and lilacs mixed together; that is to say sweet malts and earthiness. Flavor is more of that with a strong, even introduction of bitter hops that continues on through all the way down the hatch. Mouthfeel is coating and sticky but I wouldn’t call it full, more like a perfect medium. This is my first taste of Alesmith and it’s pretty damn exciting. This beer smoothly delivers the goods, thank you Alesmith. 2008 22oz.
