Commercial Description:
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green. Original Gravity Alcohol by Volume 1.085 9.5%

Bottle, Pours a dark bloody crimson body that is perfectly translucent with a thick tight light brown head. Smells of daisy buds and sweet heavy malts mix with the dominant smells of citrus fruit. Flavors of grapefruit, blood orange and thick toasty malts are most prevalent while I sense some notes of dusty brewers yeast that creates a dry creamy sensation. The mouthfeel of this brew is a unique experience with creamy exploding sensations along with a dry bitter tongue feel and the littlest amount of alcohol soak. This is one of my favorite beers to cuddle up with on a cold night.

Bottle. Pours a brandy hued copper with a medium size smooth foam head, off white in color. Citrus hops rush to the nose even while pouring. Sweet malt scents and just the faintest hint of alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium thick, sweet and malty with vigorous carbonation. Finishes with a nice lingering grapefruit and quinine bitter, and the subtlest hint of that sweet malt from earlier. Very clean, very easy drinking.

A- Poured a dark copper/amber color with a large, frothy, off-white head; excellent, sticky lacing throughout S- BIG, sweet caramel maltiness, tones of floral and citrus hops T- Taste consistent with aroma: big, bold maltiness dominates initially and gradually blends into mostly with citrus hops that last through a long aftertaste M- Very smooth feel, medium body with lively carbonation, oily hops coat the mouth D- Very pleasant and easy to drink; great smell and taste, but I am a little underwhelmed by the hops, alcohol presence is subtle, I could drink a few of these on a cold, winter night.

In the bottle from John’s Market Portland. Amber with a huge yellow beige head of concrete that is fairly inert and does not die. Big aroma of a DIPA- orange and chocolate sweetness in the nose. Candy-like aroma. Big mango sweetness with a very thick and chewy body. I’ve never tasted head this thick as it is the texture of ice cream. Big hop bitterness at the finish. Slightly peppery on the tongue at the end. Damn! This is good.

22 oz. bottle courtesy of agl108. My bottle says 8.5% ABV. A hazy amber pour with tons of little floaties and a big and fluffy sandy head. BIG aroma features plenty of resiny pine, grapefruits, rich caramel, and roasty malts. Some cherries and rye in the background too. Goes down fairly thick and medium to full-bodied. Lots of caramel, malts, and some hints of rye upfront. Finishes with some bitter, drying grapefruitiness. Warming alcohol at the end. Heavy spiciness throughout. God bless that agl108!

this great imperial red ale pours a an inch tan head. Its aroma is fantastic musky and sweet at the same time. A great winter ale makes you want to curl up next to a fire. Warm in your mouth this beer has a hoppy opening with a winter-spice aftertaste
