Commercial Description:
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green. Original Gravity Alcohol by Volume 1.085 9.5%

This was pretty good, although I think I prefer the summer version. This had a chewy maltiness to it, with some light citrus hops in the background. Toasted toffee and caramel, with a hint of cocoa dustiness in the finish.

Hazy reddish-amber. Some citrusy, caramel hops and some breadcrust. Really chewy, lots of crystal malt, some light citrus hop. A hint of toastiness and some chocolate notes. Well-made but too chewy for me.

Dark amber red with a darker beige thick head and serious lacing. Grassy citrus hop nose.Flavor is much like the nose.. grassy floral citrus hops with a lot of malt in there, nutty hints, and some spice too. Crisp spicy carbonation. Found this steal for 3.99 a bottle at Fairway in manhattan.

22oz bottle. Had this last night, much better fresh I think. Pours red/brown with a huge, billowing, offwhite head, great retention, some sticky lace. Smells a mix of hops, malts, red fruits, and alcohol. Tastes hoppy, slightly bitter, slightly sweet red fruity, slightly malty. Hops are fruity-ish. Medium body, vibrant carbonation.

Small sample at OSLO and Guerde’s tasting on Friday, 5-23-08. Pours a hazy amber. Good, hoppy and malty aroma. Pine and biscuit scents. Very good, sweet, fruity, toasty primary taste with a nice, bitter, dry hops kick. Medium to heavy body. Lively in the palate.

[Bottle, thanks Skyview!] Pours amber with a big tan head. Aroma is big on citrusy hops with the malt not as prominent. Taste is very nice, and quite sweet initially--primarily it is hops and caramel malt again, but the balance is more towards malt than in the aroma. Medium mouthfeel with a fairly long, malty finish. Pretty good stuff overall.

Thanks to kegbear for this one. Pour was medium brown with strong aromas of nutmeg, some dark fruit, and more spices. Flavor was very well blended with a lot of hop character and nutmeg again. Also very malty. Good brew consumed during the wrong season. Would buy again.
