redlight (1445), Winter Park, Florida, USA Jun 28, 2007 thanks mgumby! Super malty aroma, molasses, caramel, some citrus and berries hiding in there, a subtle spiciness. Pours a dark amber reddish color. Hefty dose of malt and hops in the flavor, malty caramel and brown sugar, with spicy citrus hops, sharp hop bite, with a smooth sweet finish. badlizard (2324), Berkeley, California, USA Jun 25, 2007 650 mL bottle. Clear orange red with a fizzy white head. Aroma of malt, sugar, and yeast. Silky palate. Big sweet malty taste, molasses, brown sugar, and hints of fruit and alcohol in the slightly bitter finish. xenthem0nk (101), Oregon, USA Jun 17, 2007 God, I waited for this one for a long time in Portland. Poured from a bottle and let’s face it, you can’t EVER go wrong with Alesmith! Very dark color for an Impy IPA. Wicked levels of piney/hoppy in the aroma. Huge mouthfeel right off the bat. I am not a hop head by any standards, but I can clearly see how this was rated so high. Lots of complexity in the flavor between bitter and deeper sweets, keeps it interesting. Thats why I think it’s great. Great balance for a 8.5%er. But.............Hercules is a far superior IPA imo. If you can find this double ipa, find Great Divides and compare... tbookman (618), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 16, 2007 Medium amber color with a reddish hue - cirtrusy aroma with notes of cherry, hops and pine. Malty flavor with smooth sweetness. Alcohol is rather mild. Some hoppiness throughout and a clean, dry finish. Terrific. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 15, 2007 Updated: Sep 17, 20072006 Bottle (also have an 05 via trade with WeeHeavySD that I’m gonna let sit for awhile). Reddish-amber color with a med-lg. and persistent off-white head. Big hop aroma with lots of citrus and pine plus some sugary-dark candy detectable. Taste is big, sticky, and well-hopped. Citra-pine dominates upfront with plenty of big, sugary malts. Really nice. I’ll still opt for the Double Bastard if given the choice though, as the "red" malts are not my favorite. Still a really nice and well hopped ASA. JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 11, 2007 Blam, this is a good one. I worried that I’d sat on this bottle for too long, but the thing still tastes fairly crisp but with much smoother malting than the first bottle I had (some time ago now). It’s by no means a heavy red, but rather has a very silky feel with a nicely integrated palate of mild butterscotch, some cardamom, and a trace of pine. Excellent stuff as usual from this brewery. hopson (591), Williamsville, New York, USA Jun 7, 2007 Updated: Mar 24, 2008Bottle from sickboy 282- wow. Sweet brew. Dark amber brown in appearence. Smelled of piney, nutty hops. Tasted terrific, nuttyness really came through when this beer warmed. Another awesome beer from this great brewer. rerate, 3/2008- this beer finally came to buffalo. feel the same way about it: possibly, the perfect beer. jazz88 (2235), San Francisco, California, USA Jun 6, 2007 Bottle. A deep reddish brown color with a big thick foamy tan head. A hop filled sweet malty aroma with pine, and citrus. A rich and malty sweet flavor with a pine hops, caramel, and pepper. Robust and well balanced.
