JCB (1716), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 11, 2007 Blam, this is a good one. I worried that I’d sat on this bottle for too long, but the thing still tastes fairly crisp but with much smoother malting than the first bottle I had (some time ago now). It’s by no means a heavy red, but rather has a very silky feel with a nicely integrated palate of mild butterscotch, some cardamom, and a trace of pine. Excellent stuff as usual from this brewery. hopson (591), Williamsville, New York, USA Jun 7, 2007 Updated: Mar 24, 2008Bottle from sickboy 282- wow. Sweet brew. Dark amber brown in appearence. Smelled of piney, nutty hops. Tasted terrific, nuttyness really came through when this beer warmed. Another awesome beer from this great brewer. rerate, 3/2008- this beer finally came to buffalo. feel the same way about it: possibly, the perfect beer. jazz88 (2235), San Francisco, California, USA Jun 6, 2007 Bottle. A deep reddish brown color with a big thick foamy tan head. A hop filled sweet malty aroma with pine, and citrus. A rich and malty sweet flavor with a pine hops, caramel, and pepper. Robust and well balanced. SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Jun 3, 2007 Thanks to Shigadeyo for sharing this bottle with us at the Tennessee Spring(ish) Tasting!
Pours with a lasting tan head over a clear, light brown body.
Big juicy malt aroma with a touch of hops.
Bitter flavor with plenty of underlying malt.
Smooth and full mouthfeel.
Very nice beer. willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Jun 2, 2007 20061006 Bomber. Well, I’ve had this numerous times. In fact, it’s one of the beers I have traded for multiple times just to stock up for the long haul. Green-tinged amber reminds of motor oil in its color and obvious viscosity. Huge, thick, and lasting tan head fades to piles of dirty sea foam. Aroma is piney, pithy, and yeasty. Very nice to encounter some yeastiness come forward in a big US style strong ale. Palate is sticky, full, and thick. This stuff is obviously mellowed a bit it’s just delicious. Mild oxidation, mellowed hops, and juicy malts. Amazing beer. scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jun 1, 2007 22 oz purchased at Julio’s in MA - Deep crimsony amber, huge foamy off-white head. Nose held rich hoppy tones of spruce, pine, peach and mango, with a well integrated toasty brown sugar and caramel backbone. Mega west coast hop flavors are well balanced with a rich toffee and caramel malt addition from start to finish. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, bittersweet finish. Typical Alesmith excellence. Minor flaw was the overcarbonation, but I’ll certainly live.... JMFG (1514), Florida, USA May 30, 2007 From trade with WeeHeavySD. Dark amber in color with slight orange tints. Light tan head. Crisp hoppy aroma with some malt and a bit of alcohol. Moderate grapefruit hop flavor that plays over some sweetness and malt. Nice medium hop finish. A nice refreshing red, would like to try a fresh bottle. hellbilly (1502), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA May 27, 2007 smells malty and syrupy sweet. flavor is suprisingly more malt than hops. it is honey sweet and piney with a definate scotch character. alcohol is hidden only by the abundance of sugar.
