bmartin08 (12), Massachusetts, USA Apr 4, 2007 Pours a nice amber with a frothy white head. Smells of hops and citrus. I am getting a very nice grapefruit kick on the palate. A bit carbonated to start but changes quickly and softens out as it warms. Very much a west coast tasting beer. I really enjoyed this one. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA Apr 4, 2007 Nose of apples & pears, berries, alcohol, plenty of spices including cinnamon. Pours a sparkling copper with a lovely slow cascade. The monstrous rocky beige head is frothy and fully lasting with good lace. The brew has a malty but well balanced front followed by a sweet warm middle with moderate acidity. The long finish takes time to develop in the mouth. Much tartness & sweetness at all stages. The medium body is sticky & fizzy at first feeling cloying. This changes with warming to soft and dry. SamuraiArtist (292), portland, Oregon, USA Apr 2, 2007 Bottle: Pours a nice medium red color with lots of hops and some malt aroma. Very citrusy aroma. Great medium malt body that is both rich and light on the palate. I dont know what they did with the hops in this but they almost give you a tingly feeling all over your mouth, bitter, floral and citrusy. Almost an Imperial Ipa but not as bitter. Very enjoyable beer. undsioux7 (553), Cologne, Minnesota, USA Mar 30, 2007 22oz bomber. Pours copper/red with a big off white head. Aroma of big sweet malt and spicy hops. Hits you up side the head out the gate with the sweet candy malt and finishes you off with some citris hops. There is some spice, floral, grapefruit and alchohal thrown in the mix as well. This one confused my weak little pallete and left me on the side of the road like a diry hooker. unclemattie (2370), Georgia, USA Mar 28, 2007 22oz. bottle bright red color, thin tan head. aroma of nuthin but hops, west coast style. super sweet malt, citrus hop flavors. very strong. finishes like a bitter malty port, sweet. medium-heavy bodied. aromas with matching flavors of cherries, pineapple, caramel, vanilla wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Mar 27, 2007 What a difference aging makes. The first bottle I tried was aged about a year, and I thought it was one of my most favorite beers. Today I am trying a young version. It pours with a huge head. Moderate strong floral hoppy smell. Nice tea color. Slightly bitter and thick. I am disappointed with my total score of 3.7, but aged it was more around a 4.3. HopheadHans (753), Bay Area, California, USA Mar 26, 2007 Bottle. Pours with an orange to copper color with a nice head. Aromas of fruit and psices, flavors of maltiness and toffee, combined with floral hops, spices and some orange peel. Very complex and smooth. Just enough alcohol hotness to warm you up. Excellent mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Mar 25, 2007 Pours a hazy deep red, with a thick lacy off white head. Very nice looking. Smells of sweet malts, cinnamon, hops, and caramel. Very intriguing. Taste is very complex, pretty nice grapefruit hops taste, but mixed with some brown sugar and caramel. Some sweet malts balance out the flavor. I love the mixture to this beer. Its not overpowering in any form. The 9.5% is hidden just enough, but reveals itself towards the finish. A treat for sure.
