NachlamSie (1630), Tennessee, USA Mar 5, 2007 Bottle split with Tronraner. The pour on this is extra deep red with a long lasting whitish head. The nose has loads of hops. Quite lemony and piney with hints of hickory and sticky caramel. Plenty of lemon notes abound in the flavor along with a pine forest. To balance, hints of wood, biscuits, tobacco, and earth are present. This is a quintessential American strong:sticky, hoppy, decent malt complexity. Very well done, I can’t decide which Yulesmith I like better. HopDevil1979 (117), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Mar 3, 2007 Whoa! What a GIGANTIC amount of flavor in this 22. Everything is MORE in this brew, more hops, more malt, more carbonation, more haze in color, more pizazz. Would drink again and again. MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Mar 1, 2007 Updated: Dec 7, 2007Thanks to Naven for the bottle. Hazy ruby/orange color with a huge head. Spare lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, oily resin and a great amount of caramel hops. Taste is big caramel malt with some hoppy-type spice. The alcohol is well hidden. Full body. Oily texture. Bitter finish. Pretty good, but is it a 100 percentile? Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Feb 28, 2007 22oz Bottle. Mix of aromas with bread, malt and most noticable Citrus. Amber body good off white head left ring of lacing around upper part of pint glass. Good citrus hop flavor blended with camamel malt and some alcohol warming. Havn’t seen this one in my area since joining rate beer glad I finally got one. lagomswedish (213), Umeå, Sweden Feb 28, 2007 Bottle (thanks ClarkVV). My first imperial red ale! Popping the cap the typically American hop aromas came flooding out, with citrus, pine and a decent dash of tinned pineapple juice. This is an attractive beer, living up to it’s red ale label. The fantastic aroma is this beer’s most likeable feature for me, as the taste fails to live up to the aromatic hype. A very viscous, syrupy mouthfeel and a lingering, dry biiterness surround this perfumed and spicy beer. It’s nicely balanced, with minimal alcohol heat, and a great beer to have in the depths of a Swedish winter. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Feb 27, 2007 22 oz bottle. Amber in color with a medium off white head. Aroma is alot of citrus, as well as caramel malts. Taste is alot of fresh citrus hops with a really big malt backbone, caramel, and bready/toasty malt. notes of berries/plums. extremely well balanced. Moderate bitterness in the finish. Alcohol completely hidden. footy (334), scottsdale, Arizona, USA Feb 26, 2007 11/06. Very nice sweet grapefruit aroma. Pleasant malty creamy taste with ending hop bitterness. Somewhat refreshing. Better than the summer version which is too bitter and unbalanced. one of the better alesmith beers. Most are over the top and unbalanced. HopsOrDie (687), New Lenox, Illinois, USA Feb 21, 2007 Pours coper red with a thick dark yellow head. Smells of crazy fresh citric hops: I love it. Flavor has a very hoppy nature with a sweet balancing malt. Hop flavor lingers in your mouth with lemon, pineapple, and a sharp bitterness. Palate is fairly thick and there is an alcoholic backend but enforcing not overpowering. I would like to sample this next to the summer Yulesmith, since this is much more pleasurable to me than the other.
