Commercial Description:
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green. Original Gravity Alcohol by Volume 1.085 9.5%

Would love to have this one next to the summer version so if anyone wants to hook me up, feel free. Big white creamy head. Deep clear auburn color. Aroma is slightly sugary with a little bit of pine and grapefruit. Taste is smooth, malty with a subtle bitter finish. Very good.

22 oz bottle. Pours a semi dark amber with a two finger frothy head and lingers around. Somewhat dissappointed in the aroma, I was expecting it to have a stronger sweet and hop aroma. Flavor is opposite, strong sweet caramel malt, hints of toffee, and rich in flavor. Dry finish with a hop bitterness that lingers. A great beer that warms the gut...’tis the season.

Thanks to Badgerben for sharing an ’04. It might have been a little old. It wasn’t nearly as well hopped as I expected. Very thick, especially for an IPA. Solid malt body, with some sweetness and lightly bitter hops. Good flavor but not as full of a palate, I suspect, as if it were fresh.

Bottle, thanks to WeeHeavySD! Pours a dark amber color with a nice foamy off-white head on top that is not going anywhere. Aroma is definitely more balanced when comparing with the Summer YuleSmith. Definitely smelling more of a malt profile in this version. Sweet malt, fruit, toffee, cake, hops, and citrus are in the aroma. Flavor is sweet malts, fruit, caramel, and toffee up front. The malt profile is accompanied by a wonder hop profile full of citrus. This beer defines what a christmas tree smells like and what it might taste like! A wonderful seasonal winter beer. Absolutely delicious!

Burnt Orange color with a soft fruity aroma. Spicy heat in the palate with some pineapple. Dry finish that fades quick.

Bomber pours out to a hazy chestnut red that light barely penetrates. Aromas rise from my glass in well-defined stages: first, cinnamon and woods, followed by mandarin orange and bright citrus hoppiness, finished with rich caramel malt. Tastes of brown sugar cake and toffee, some leather and outdoorsy hops as it finishes. Rich and complex, intensely concetrated, and very amiable. Cheers!

I was really hoping for something exceptional, and this really wasn’t, though it was good. It poured with a huge beige head and was quite coppery. To me it was too sweet and cloying and I certainly didn’t get the hops as promised. I’ll skip this in the future. Thanks to Andrew Crawford for bringing this back from CA.
