Commercial Description:
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green. Original Gravity Alcohol by Volume 1.085 9.5%

Bottle from trade with hopdog. Thanks! Pours a dark amber color with average off-white head. Aroma is sweet of apricots, plums and caramel. Flavor is lightly citrus hops with lots of caramel and sweet fruits. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Quite refreshing... hides alcohol very well.

Bottle from Marcus. Amber body with medium sized off-white head. The aroma is heavy caramel, some citrus and pine. The flavor is moderately sweet, toffee, caramel and resinous piney hops. Medium/full body with soft carbonation and a slightly astringent, bitter finish.

Great beer. This is almost like red ale concentrate. There is so much beer flavor per sip that it is almost overwhelming, which is not a bad thing. Worth it.

I’ve been drinking this since thanksgiving, but i still don’t think i can do this beer justice. out of the growler its come deep amber with a thick white head. candi sweet aroma with a healthy dose of hops. Flaqvor too has a complex sweetness balence with a solid amount of hoppiness. My last growler fill was the last of the season, and i can’t wait till next year

22oz bomber, no date, though I’m fairly sure it’s an ’06. Pours a clear ruby caramel with a lively four finger head that takes ten minutes to fade enough to drink. Maybe I let this get a little too warm. Aroma of resiny, piney, and spicy hops, some dusty caramelly malts. This kinda reminds me of Founders Red’s Rye. Flavor is a bit more straight bitterness and alcohol, though the hops are still apparent. A bit of toasty malts and some vinous charascteristics are in there as well. To be noted, ETOH isn’t hidden too well. Finish is dry. Medium to full bodied, moderate carbonation. Pretty good brew.

Poured into a tulip. Fluffy off-white, long-lasting head. Deep amber color. Sweet malt and piney hop aromas. Upfront caramel with a hoppy, long-lasting bitter finish. Very well balanced.
