Sweet dark caramel, lots of sweet spice, crisp capsicum-like bitter finish. A bit of an odd choice of hops, but it works! Ibrew2or3 (2766), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 4, 2006 Copper color with thin white head. Aroma seems light and piney right out of the frig. Flavor, wow, what I’d guess a Holiday IIPA would taste like. Solid pine hop bitterness and flavor. There’s also a fir tree quality that adds a greener dimension to the hops. Maybe it’s a huge dose of late addition hops to the boil. There is the slightest malt sweetness behind this big hop beer. Chewy and yummy. Suttree (2742), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 11, 2007 Brownish orange. Very sweet, caramelly aroma, mixed ith a woodys, resiny smell. Very smooth. The first flavor is juicy, sweet malts, with big citrusy notes - oranges, lemons - then a sticky, resiny finish. Really enjoyable. michael-pollack (2728), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 28, 2008 22oz. Bottle: Aroma of hops, citrus, pine, caramel, light grapefruit, light toasting, and cream. Poured deep orange/amber/ruby in color with a medium-sized, creamy, dense, tan head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Slightly sparkling. Full of medium and large-sized particles throughout. Very good to excellent lacing. Flavor is medium bitter and lightly sweet. Tastes of hops, pine, spruce, citrus, malts, toasting, chocolate, light fruit, light caramel, and some resin. Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, sweet, hops, pine, caramel, chocolate finish is delicious. Nuffield (2724), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 19, 2003 Good loose foaming head. Copper-red-orange color. Orange grove aroma, as if walking in Florida, plus pine cones. I was loving the first two sips, with such bursts of orange. Then I was unimpressed by the bitter end. Good palate, sweet with some life, but ugh, what an ending. (Sampled at Southern Ratebeer Gathering, Austin, TX, December 6, 2003) IrishBoy (2719), Bakersfield, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 31, 2006 Bottle; Big pine and citrus hop nose; Gark copper colored with a huge, glass- lacing cinnamon tinged head; malty flavor with caramel and some hop bitterness which develops into a nice bitter hop finish after 10 or 15 seconds. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 8, 2007 65 cl bottle. Reddish brown colour with a nice light brown head. Lovely aroma of hops, such as citrus, flower and freshness combined with a caramel touch. Lovely flavour of bitter hops, caramel, malt, alcohol and with a very soft bit of hops, but plenty of it. A very lovely Christmas beer, I think it will be nice to serve it to "Risengrød". notalush (2684), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 7, 2006 Well, the pour was a nice clear strawberry color until I got some sediment in there; now it’s a bit cloudy, but the head is massive and well-retained - very bright, crisp hop aroma, with a lot of american barleywine-like smells (lots of caramel malt, light and dark fruit, background alcohol) - very smooth mouthfeel, even though the carbonation is fairly high - bracing hops up front, followed by an almost sticky malt sweetness - caramel, strawberry, cherry, a hint of sweetened grapefruit - almost everything about this beer says barleywine to me - very tasty stuff - many thanks to herbjones for hooking me up.
