Commercial Description:
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green. Original Gravity Alcohol by Volume 1.085 9.5%

22 oz purchased at Julio’s in MA - Deep crimsony amber, huge foamy off-white head. Nose held rich hoppy tones of spruce, pine, peach and mango, with a well integrated toasty brown sugar and caramel backbone. Mega west coast hop flavors are well balanced with a rich toffee and caramel malt addition from start to finish. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, bittersweet finish. Typical Alesmith excellence. Minor flaw was the overcarbonation, but I’ll certainly live....

Translucent copper with a high tide like foaminess for the tan head. Honey dough, starch, nectar, garden variety hop bouquet and orange scrapings summarize aroma. Smooth on the palate with a nice backdoor bitterness that leans on sweet malt support enveloping flavors of caramel, butterscotch and toffee. Modestly resonates.

Hazy amber body with a good head. Aroma is hopped out obviously with notes of grapefruity, spicy, citrusy, piney hops. Lesser notes of vanilla and caramel. Flavor is the same, delicious. It’s balanced quite well. Nice n bitter, but enough chewy malts to balance it out. This beer is screaming "Drink me faster dammit!" Alcohol is masked, it’s not harshly bitter or sweet... wow.

Whaleman 2004: Poured a cloudy dark orange with a thick cream colored head. Big malty/candy/caramel aroma. Great hop/malt balance with a mild citrusy taste. Finish is slightly bitter. Full bodied. A great beer.

Bomber split with NachlamSie. Pours a goldish red with bubbly off-white head. The aroma is well, hops: lemon, grapefruit, a little bit of pine. I suggest letting it get up close to room temperature to let some malt aromas come out, too: toast, a little bit of caramel. The flavor is lemon and grapefruit up front, working its way to a general bitterness in the finish. A pleasant toasty malt holds it all up. The alcohol is barely detectable. The finish is bitter and sticky, but leaves a clean aftertaste. This is pretty good stuff.

Bomber shared with and courtesy of gputty. This is the winter imperial red version. Murky golden brown with red highlights. Beige head. Big, sweet tart orange nose. Thick foamy lace. Nice, crisp, bitter orange flavor. Lively, crisp mouthfeel. Lovely, spicy citrus bitter finish. The perfect end to a very up-and-down tasting day!
