Smells of sweet malts, cinnamon, hops, and caramel. Very intriguing. Taste is very complex, pretty nice grapefruit hops taste, but mixed with some brown sugar and caramel. Some sweet malts balance out the flavor. I love the mixture to this beer. Its not overpowering in any form. The 9.5% is hidden just enough, but reveals itself towards the finish. A treat for sure. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Apr 12, 2007 Dark bronze/copper color. Big aroma, balanced with malt & hops. Tremendous big, rich and coating mouth feel, which seems to elevate the flavors. Fantastic flavor, which is more malt accented. The malt is so decadent and provides an astounding flavor of caramel and big fruit. Then come the hops, which deliver underlying pine, exceptional bitterness and a great citrusy finish. This is one hell of a beer. LinusStick (1851), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

Got at Vintage Estates in Ohio...the pour was a hazy burnt orange with a thin white head. Aroma and taste is all malt with a hoppy aftertaste that doesn’t interfere. There are definite caramel undertones as well. This is a beer I have been waiting for 3 months for and worth every second! Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA

Damn good looking beer. Nice hop aroma of grapefruit and lemons with a small underlying malt character. Flavors are very well balanced between the malts and hops. Full body with mellow maltiness to it. Pleasing palate. All smooth and creamy. Damn fine Ale. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 22, 2003 Updated: Jan 20, 2005Bottle. Pours reddish brown with a small off white head that diminishes rapidly but left some lacing. Aroma is bursting with hops - pine, citrus - along with some malt sweetness. Flavor starts oh so briefly with fruity malts, then gives way to the hop blast. It’s almost like sweet orange juice up front with a bitter and tart grapefruit finish. Mouthfeel is smooth, medium body and lightly carbonated. Wow, this is a hop monster and a nice treat from Alesmith. Dorwart (1829), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 5, 2006 Very large creamy tan head of fine dense bubbles. Lasts for a long time. Very good carbonation. Nice hoppy aroma with plenty of spruce. Loads of caramel and sweet malts. Smells like a typical american strong ale. Color is a dark copper red. Malty and sweet flavor with a load of hops for balance. Lots of spruce and pine flavors. Very resinous. Decent alcohol warming and burn. Finish is hot and thick. Creamy and coating. Lingering hops bitterness along with some alcohol and sweetness. A great american strong ale. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 25, 2003 Somewhere on the vague continuum between Stone's IPA (an IPA) and Dreadnaught IPA (an American Strong) lies this beauty of a beer. It will absolutely ruin your palate in it's excesses. Incredibly piney hop blast coupled with powerful sweetness from the malt just is beyond the pale. In a good way. Thick and cloudy and with a deep yeasty component as well. Wow! Thanks to Marc for this one! thornecb (1810), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
