Hoppy aroma with fruity notes, almost jelly beans like. Apricots, pine, grapefruit, flowers - mostly roses - and some citrus in the background. Malt brings caramel and toffee. Spicy, hoppy flavour with apricots, citrus and pine. Decent caramelly and syrupy malt backdrop. Soft and round mouthfeel with a medium to full dry finish. Medium sweet and medium to full bitterness. Good. NachlamSie (1657), Tennessee, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Mar 5, 2007 Bottle split with Tronraner. The pour on this is extra deep red with a long lasting whitish head. The nose has loads of hops. Quite lemony and piney with hints of hickory and sticky caramel. Plenty of lemon notes abound in the flavor along with a pine forest. To balance, hints of wood, biscuits, tobacco, and earth are present. This is a quintessential American strong:sticky, hoppy, decent malt complexity. Very well done, I can’t decide which Yulesmith I like better. kiefdog (1651), Tampa, Florida, USA

The first bottle I tried was aged about a year, and I thought it was one of my most favorite beers. Today I am trying a young version. It pours with a huge head. Moderate strong floral hoppy smell. Nice tea color. Slightly bitter and thick. I am disappointed with my total score of 3.7, but aged it was more around a 4.3. jason (1627), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA

Good aroma and awesome appearance. Looked great in the glass. Flavor is well balanced with a somewhat grape flavor hitting near the end. Good flavor left over in the mouth. Hoppy but rough. Good ale. Cheers!
Update: This is a rating for a 2006 bottle. The sweet malty flavor was exceptional. This has turned into a great beer. Light hops are present and overall thi beer is smooth and delicious. TURDFERGUSON (1609), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 24, 2007 Bomber thanks to notalush, Brandon you just opened up my eyes. I never thought or had an IIPA that is so malty. So when I smell it first, it is not the hops that intrigue me but the sweet brown sugar filled caramel malt aroma. Its strong and equally balanced with the great hearty hops which are like sourish and really citrus-y tangerines. The taste is similarly great where the malt sweetness really counterbalances the hop bitterness. Its pretty hefty to boot with a good heavy body thats also offset by an above average carbonation.
