Commercial Description:
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green. Original Gravity Alcohol by Volume 1.085 9.5%

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy and tupalev, my bottle. Poured murky deep brownish-red with an average tan foamy-creamy head. Aroma - that’s the sh... stuff! Rich, juicy, fresh, slightly resiny hops, solid amount of malt present - simple, elegant and balanced, just as it should be. Taste is basically the same - solid fresh hops perfectly balanced with malt, a long linger. Mouthfeel is creamy, pleasantly astringent and full-bodied. This is a terific IIPA with a long, balanced sprucey finish, and the IBU level is simply not overpowering. Another killer beer from AleSmith - thanks again to my sister for bringing this back from California!

Pours bright white crown that indicates strong alpha character, nice amber hue. Pleasant to eye . Piney, spruce forest, refreshing clean nose. There is more, behind you shall find good malt base. Flavour; hoppy high class front, great smooth texture. Super mouthfeel. Lovely blend of hops, malt, spice (juniper?) and yeast. Superb, world class beer.

Medium orange color. Medium head. Aroma is hop spicy, grapefruity and citrusy. Big bodied IPA. Big and bold yet, not over the top like most West Coast IPA. Malts are fruity and slightly sweet. Hops are wild, spicy, piney and grapefruity. In the IPA spectrum this one is between 3 Floyds Dreadnaught and Stone IPA. It’s a hop fest, without being too bitter. Nicely balanced. Very smooth. Hides the 8.5% alcohol very well. Etched beer bottle. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. VERY NICE BEER!

December 2004 Copper - dark amber body. Gorgeous big creamy off white head, and nice lacing on the glass. Big pleasantly hoppy aroma, shows a touch of green hops and muted citrus. Lots of hops present in the flavour predominantly resiny with a touch of pine but not much citrus aside from some punchy grapefruit in the finish. Nice medium to full body. Very nice beer. Thanks to whoever brought this to Dougs for the Toronto Christmas Party 2004. 8/4/9/4/17 - 4.2

Bottle 06 served in 07. Ruby Brown pour. Great flavors of citrus/grape/passion hop character. I really enjoyed this bottle.

Murky reddish brown with a small head. Spicy, grainy-malty aroma with a touch of vegetables. Grainy-malty, sweet-caramely flavor with a touch harsh hops, some Xmas spices, and medium bitterness. Almost full-bodied, quite sticky palate. Pleasant, but still raw.

To celebrate my 2600th rating. 22oz bottle @ VV tasting, Odense. Pours a dark unclear amber with a creamy white head and lacings. Nose is heavily hopped with lots of chewy malts. Filling, smooth and full bodied. Caramel, liquorice and hops. Simple, powerful and extremely well made.
