Commercial Description:
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green. Original Gravity Alcohol by Volume 1.085 9.5%

Winter version. Appearance- cloudy ruby colour with a chunky/fluffy head that sticks around. Smell- lots of C hops give it a strong tropical fruit nose. I could smell it all day long.... Taste- the hops were so stiff out of the gate that they tickled my nostrils like a strong serving of horseradish. Impressive! Sweet caramel malts give the backbone to this hop monster. Toffee and caramel with some leather. Almost sweet enought that its on the cloying side, but straddles the line brilliantly. Finish is dry as the hops pucker the mouth and the booze shows up. Fantastic beer all around.

Pours cloudy golden amber with a big fluffy head that stays around for an eternity. possibly the prettiest head ever. crazy. nose is basement musk, with a solid doss of pine resins, citrus, and malty breadyness. taste is very similiar, reminds me of my dads batch 8. it is definitely a glorious beer.

22. oz from Johns in Portland, OR. Great stuff. More substantial than the summer version, more complext than almost anythign else i have tried (save dreadnought or goose island iipa). Orange/copper/gold color, great thick persistent head. Perfect lacing on the glass as you drink, caramel and tofee greet you and huge hops kick your ass as you gulp it down.

Wet, sweet and sticky hops balanced by a ton of sweet, cherry, candy malt. The only Alesmith I’ve been able to get my hands on, but I can tell I need more from here.

Pours a very hazy reddish brown with tan-tinted head. Aroma is a chipotle/orange dark chocolate bar with nutty malt undertones. Flavor is very earthy/grassy notes with pine hues. There are mild notes of a citrus flavor present. Flavors of orange granola. Body is light with heavy carbonation. A very well done beer for this style. It is very enjoyable.

bomber from south bay drugs poured into a tulip pint. pours a beautiful ruby amber with a one inch soap bubble head and great lacing. aroma simply fantastic. huge, fresh, spicy hops, grapefruit, pine, a touch of malt sweetness, and maybe even some cherry. flavor is nothing short of delicious. big hop bitterness up front with a spicy note that instantly warms the mouth. citrus flavors of orange zest and grapefruit come through with a great balance of roasty, caramel malt and a long lasting bitterness. palate is wonderfully smooth and nicely carbonated with a great warming alcohol presence. honestly, a near perfect winter ale.

Appropriately generous hoppy aroma, strongly fruity and flowery with apparent notes of orange, pineapple and grapefruit along with dashes of cedar and light brown sugar sweetness. Medium-dark rusty red-brown color, opaque and rather heavily sedimented, with a lasting, creamy head and delicate lace. Malt is actually what begins this beer for me, sweet, thick and bodifying, but consequently giving way to the rush of full, citric, juicy and piney hops, and seeing a fantastically well-done balance of elements for the finish, along with some lingering spices and earthy woodiness. Palate is smooth, creamy and expansive, the seemingly ideal level of effervescence achieved for the style and the body medium-full. Nicely done, a true pleasure to consume. Cheers, Chris!

Wonderful dark amber color, hazy, with red and mahogany reflex; medium head. It has a very nice aroma, sweet caramel, powerful hops, fruity (tangerine, oranges, plums…), resiny and some vanilla. The mouthfeel is very bold, nevertheless smooth; it has a strong flavor of dark caramel, rhubarb candies, medium sweetness, full hopping, dynamic, with moderate resins and bitter orange peels; long and balanced final, yet strong and chewy. Very powerful, but also very well brewed. Excellent.
