Commercial Description:
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green. Original Gravity Alcohol by Volume 1.085 9.5%

Pours copper with a thick off-white head. Citrus and hops on the nose. Nice warm and chewy mouthfeel. Orange, hops, caramel, pepper, and toasted malt. Dry peppery hop finish. Well-ballanced and extraordinary. Hops are much more subtle than some IIPAs. An amazing beer. And it's given me quite a buzz.

Poured a cloudy orange amber color with a small tan head, and some lacing. Strong citrus hop aroma. Very well balanced, with a grapefruit hop, then resiny pine taste and then a superb malt finish. Full / creamy mouthfeel.

Sampled at the Knoxville tasting courtesy of Shigadeyo, thanks Craig. I have been wanting to try this one for a really long time, ever since it got split into new ratings. I never knew this was a different beer until then. Pours out a dark redish color with a light yellow colored head. Smell is hoppy, fruity, sweet, and pine needles. Taste is smooth and rich and slightly bitter, but not too much. Very rich and flavorful. Reminds me of a double bastard quite a bit, but smoother. Great shit here.

Bottle. Pours reddish brown with a small off white head that diminishes rapidly but left some lacing. Aroma is bursting with hops - pine, citrus - along with some malt sweetness. Flavor starts oh so briefly with fruity malts, then gives way to the hop blast. It’s almost like sweet orange juice up front with a bitter and tart grapefruit finish. Mouthfeel is smooth, medium body and lightly carbonated. Wow, this is a hop monster and a nice treat from Alesmith.

Bottle. Somewhat hazy amber/orange color, huge lasting creamy head. Very nice fruity and hoppy aroma, citrus. lots of IPA-feeling in this one. Floral and with elder notes. Hoppy floral flavor, grassy, metallic, spicy, fruity, a lil sweetish. Great body, great beer.

Hop aroma and flavor, but not as hoppy as the summer release. Lots of sticky sweet malt, spice, vanilla and overripe fruit in here as well. Just the right amount of alcohol to kick up your holiday cheer. Look forward to this every year.

Wow, hops are all up in your face on this one. But the bitterness mellows, and a nice creamy orange flavor blooms over the tongue. I think this would be an awesome brew on a hot summer night, I plan on cracking one open on July 4th.

Well after hearing about the summer YuleSmith over a year ago and buying a bottle i thought all along it was the same brew as the winter ale. When did they start to classify them as seperate beers? Anyways, this winter bottle produces a dark burnt orange with very fluffy topping of head. Aroma is a stinky socks type of smell that Fat Tire has but this ale isn’t as stinky. Has minimum amount of hop scent and big background of malt and sweets. The drink is a rich flavor of sweet sugars used and semi dark malt and just the right touch of hop. Very heavy and well balanced.
