Commercial Description:
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green. Original Gravity Alcohol by Volume 1.085 9.5%

Bottled, brought from City Beer, SF. Clear amber color, short off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit, big hop, some malt. As in all alesmiths again a perfect balance of big hop, pine and grapefruit on a malty background. Strong and tasty, but also quite soft. Great stuff.

2002 i was holding onto 2 bottles but due to a trade i have just the one again so this is as good a time as any to crack it open when i still have the rating frenzy going on.Nice amber color that is slightly cloudy but not so much as to make it totally opaque.Small head that faded semi-fast but managed to leave a bit of a nice lace.Very nice hops aroma with the usual amount of grapefruit and maybe a slight bitter-sweetness as well. The feel is kind of heavy and i guess mildly sweet taste, malt hops and more hops with a nice citrusy side ande medium bitterness with the after taste coming on as hoppy and malty with a mild alcohol burn going down. This is a fantastic brew well balanced complex and very flavorful, what more could you ask for but more of this.SIGH,i'm tapped out for now so it's back to trading to get a few more for later trades and further indulgment.

Huge floral hop nose with some fruitiness too. Hazy dark amber color and sticky tan head. A little syrup and sweet candy-like malt base with a spiced middle. Big hop taste throughout but just amazingly strong at the end. High hop resolution with totally west coast hops. The bitterness arrives rather late and lingers...forever. Great stuff.

Deep copper with an extremely intense hoppy aroma. The usual suspects, grapefruit, pine, sticky and resiny. Firm malt, touch of caramel, vanilla as well. Deep bitterness. Some alcohol in the finish. Very nice. Thanks to CaptainCougar for the opportunity!

2002: 12/3/02 Had it on tap at the brewery while watching Peter, Tod and crew bottle it in the 22’s and having my jug filled with Anvil (ESB). Life is good. Golden orange color with a medium head. Aroma somewhat hoppy (duh). Flavor: Rich malt sweetness at the start, mildly hoppy and smooth finish. Good balance with a light dry citrus aftertaste. Nice after-burp to boot!
2003: 11/19/03 Picked up a jug@AleSmith Brewery- AWESOME! Happy Holidays

A very solid strong aroma of cascade hops. Great lasting head on a clear coppery body. Wonderful fruity flavors blended with the bitterness and balancing malt. A really nice brew.

2002. Pours with a generous off-white, pillowy head. The body is orange red with plenty of floating sediment. The aroma is strongly hoppy, with citrus, pine and perfume, a touch of sweet spice and plenty of bitterness. A nice balance exists between the malt and hops. The beer starts with a bready malt character with a nice caramel topping. Quickly, it moves to a bitter, hoppy finish that leaves a puckering sensation that yearns for more. Sap and citrus dominate the hop profile and it really is enjoyable. A wonderfully crafted IPA that really pleases. Thanks to Jake Barnes for bringing this back to Illinois.

2003 Bottle. Beautiful orange-amber, a floral hoppy aroma. Has a light syrupy mouthfeel, a sweet citrus flavor to balance the ample hops bite. Hides the alcohol very well. Certainly one of the best Imperial IPAs produced.
