The aroma is fruity and hoppy with a heavy dose of caramel. Very malty. The flavor is sweet, full of dark fruit, caramel, and toffee with a hop bite at the end. Well balanced and super tasty. The alcohol is well hidden. This one exceeded my expectations. All the best qualities of a winter warmer and an exceptional IIPA all rolled into one. plaidtopia (8), , Washington, USA does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 5, 2009 The dryness of an IPA mixed with the front-loaded flavor of an cherry-flavored ale. If all christmas beers could be like this!
Brownish with beige head.
Classic malty christmas ale topped with loads of hops.
A hoppy christmas ale. Actually somewhat baley wine’ish
Very creamy, and low carbonation.
What a treat. They beat the danish tradition.

It’s strange how living in the PNW we get overdosed with hops, I had begun to feel as though I was "hopped out", bored with all the IIPAs and overhopped brews, then comes along a reminder of when they are done well. This beer is just made with care, the hops aren’t aggressive, just welcoming and warming. So many of Portlands "winter IPAs" are harsh, with no real malts to balance, not sweetness to work with the floral hops. Yulesmith really works well, the soft caramel and bready malts work with the pine and citrus hops. Never do I feel overwhelmed with bitterness, more just hop flavor and floral aromas. Slight tropical notes show in the hops giving hints of dried pineapple. Very smooth on the palate, never showing its 9.5% devil of a soul. boto (1336), Granby, Connecticut, USA

The aroma has both notes of pine and citrus hops. Also some floral notes. A bit of a bitter bite to the beer (predominately citric), but nicely balanced by the presence of a slightly more than medium malt body. It has a creamy texture to it. Extremely nice. mwsf (360), San Francisco, California, USA

Big citric C-hop presence with a nice earthiness in the middle. Strong malt presence that attempts to back up the hop assault but fails to provide the backbone that this level of alpha acids needs. Dare I say unbalanced? And I'm a hophead! Still, quite a tasty beer. belgianhomebrew (646), Acworth, Georgia, USA
