Commercial Description:
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green. Original Gravity Alcohol by Volume 1.085 9.5%

a very nice christmas present, finally bottled last year for the first time (although the growlers made thanksgiving dinner so much more fun) rich and malty, with a nice filling mouthfeel. well balanced, with a perfect amount of hops and a long warming finish.

(Originally rated in 2004 - moved during the Great Yulesmith Split Of 2006.) Dark golden-amber colour with a tan head. Rich, sweet & hoppy aroma. Warm and complex flavour of brown sugar, toffee, orangey hops & spices. Hides that 8.5% extremely & dangerously well. A fantastic beer. [Toronto Christmas Party ’04]

Medium orange color. Medium head. Aroma is hop spicy, grapefruity and citrusy. Big bodied IPA. Big and bold yet, not over the top like most West Coast IPA. Malts are fruity and slightly sweet. Hops are wild, spicy, piney and grapefruity. In the IPA spectrum this one is between 3 Floyds Dreadnaught and Stone IPA. It’s a hop fest, without being too bitter. Nicely balanced. Very smooth. Hides the 8.5% alcohol very well. Etched beer bottle. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. VERY NICE BEER!

Had this on cask last night and it was awesome. Citrus flavor along with a perfect hops/malt balance. 2004 version not as hoppy with a bit more malt.

Delicious aroma of balanced malt with the huge amount of hops. Dark brown/tawny color with perfect head and lacing. The flavor is perfectly balanced. Fig newton meets caramel meets chinook hops. One of the best I2PAs I've had.

Pours coper red with a thick dark yellow head. Smells of crazy fresh citric hops: I love it. Flavor has a very hoppy nature with a sweet balancing malt. Hop flavor lingers in your mouth with lemon, pineapple, and a sharp bitterness. Palate is fairly thick and there is an alcoholic backend but enforcing not overpowering. I would like to sample this next to the summer Yulesmith, since this is much more pleasurable to me than the other.

Interesting color, a reddish amber on top fading into gold, with a tan head. Big fruity and spicy hops, orange grapefruit, fresh and leafy with some underlying malt. Well balanced flavor, plenty of malt to back up the hops, fruity again, longer finish. Medium to full bodied carried it across excellently, very little alcohol present. Excellent
