Commercial Description:
During the summer, YuleSmith is transformed into a big, hoppy, Double IPA. The enormous load of hops requires a substantial malt background to create just the right balance for a Double IPA. Lighter in color, summer YuleSmith is available around the 4th of July and is packaged in a red, white, and blue bottle. For the winter season, YuleSmith is brewed as an Imperial Red Ale. This version is maltier, more balanced, and darker in color than the summer version. Although quite malty, big hop flavors and aromas are abundant making this an unforgettable winter warmer. Winter YuleSmith is packaged in traditional holiday red and green. Original Gravity Alcohol by Volume 1.085 9.5%

Wow, big thanks to hogtown harry for sharing yet another alesmith - I don’t know how I would have ever tried these beers without your connections, cheers harry, it is much appreciated. Shared with harry and blankboy. Dark hazy orange/brown, small white head. Wonderful hoppy aroma. Incredible balanced sweet malt, full mouthfeel, and hop taste. Not as much hops as aroma suggests, which is good, and they weave perfectly into this near perfect beer. Full flavoured, full mouthfeel and a joy to drink, this beer has earned its high standing here on the site. A true beer drinking delight, not bad as I kick off my next 1000!

Bottle: Excellent grapefruit aroma with some malt sneaking thru too. Pours a transparent copper with a little sediment floating around. Nice creamy white head with excellent retention. Great lacing. Some orange sweetness up front which lasts throughout the flavor with a very nice hop finish. Very well balanced. Moderate hop aftertaste. Very smooth. No real alcohol flavor is detectable. Thanks to wolhfs for this one. Just as good as Dreadnaught but gets a higher appearance score making it a 0.1 better overall score. Excellent beer. **** Had another and really think this is much better fresh. 5 months later this really got big on the citrus and even became acidic. A high 3 after a few months but a mid 4 fresh.

Poured a slightly hazy, medium copper color with a smaller off white head. Aromas of citrus (oranges) and some malts. Starts out sweet and ends in a nice hoppy bite (but not over the edge). Well balanced. Some pine. Very good beer and I glad I picked this up while on vacation!

Orginal rate 01/05/05 7/4/9/4/19 22oz Dec 2004 batch - One of my favorite beers right now. Strong hop smell typical to a west coast IPA. Copper color with nice subtle head. Flavor is crisp, clean, and very hoppy. As Alesmith says "leave you thristing for the next sip" is right on!<!-- br --><!-- br --> RERATE: 10/05/2005 Aged 22oz bottle fom 12/04 and it is still awesome. More carmel malt aroma to balance out the still great hop presence. I could sit there smelling this one all day long. Flavor is even smoother than the freshy if that’s possible. The malts and hops blend perfectly together for a carmelly hop flavor. Palate is creamy and smooth with a slight bite from the hop. Fresh or aged, this is my favorite brew.

This is an amazingly well balanced BIG BEER. Bright copper in color with a Huge, rocky beige head that coats the glass rather than laces it, it has a strong grapefruit/pine/floral hop aroma countered by caramel and toffee from the malts. The first taste is a serious bitterness, kind of like chewing on a hop flower, but this is quickly followed by a rush of caramel and bready malt flavors. Add to this a hit of citric fruitiness and a mild alcohol burn, and you have an artful blending of flavors sure to satisfy most serious beer drinkers... especially the hopheads in the crowd. The finish is dry and lingeringly bitter. We need AleSmith distributed in Chicago!

Moved from the YuleSmith (Summer) where it was egregiously placed at the time of the split. I just picked up a YuleSmith Summer Imperial Pale Ale, so I’ll be "re-rating" that anon.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Woohoo, another beer to rate from my favourite brewery -- thanks Harry! Pours a hazy dark orangey-brown with a large dissipating fizzy white head. The aroma, well if I quote my notes I wrote "Holy $h!t that’s awesome!" A wonderful fresh hops explosion -- I love it! I dont know how the flavour can top the aroma but it does -- it’s sooo flavourful it’s ridiculous. Again, fresh juicy hops balanced just right with some sweet malt. You’d never know this was 8.5%. Creamy, full bodied and smooth. Excellent, I don’t know if IPAs get better then this!

Fresh 2006 bottle. Lot’s of fruity hop aromas. apricoty and citrusy. Huge head on this light orange pour. I had to pour the next glass really really slow. Head is wow creamy. Flavors are wonderfully sweet with lots of citrusy hops. Delicious.
