11-Sep-08 (330-ml bottle: Purchased 09-Feb-08 for $1.69 at Ledger’s Liquors in Berkeley, CA) This is a malty beer, but it certainly lacks richness and depth, and the overall flavor doesn’t inspire thoughts of quality ingredients. The entry is uninteresting, mixing toasty bread and graininess, but it manages to finish with a touch of smoky roast. Medium-bodied and pleasantly dry on the palate. The nose is bready and papery, far less malty than the flavor. Dark-brown in color with ruby highlight and signs of good clarity at the edges. A small, light-tan head settles to a thin layer and bubbly ring, leaving a fair amount of spotty and stringy lacing. Not a bad beer, but not interesting.

Creamy chocolate aroma, medium bodied, very dark brown, sticky tan head, great lacing. Fairly light in body and flavor, little waxy. Erm. More waxy as it warms up. High hopes fallen. Poured out.

Bottle, Carringtons, Chorlton. Dark red tinged brown pour with a medium, fading light brown head. Aroma was ashtrays, corn, grain. Pretty heavy carbonation. Flavour was malt heavy and pretty uninspiring with a slight metallic edge. Against my better judgement there was something I found vaguely appealing here however. An almost dirty, slutty kind of appeal, that you know you’d feel guilty about the next day.

12 oz bottle @ Alhambra’s in Chicago Friday nite. Light roasted malty aroma with some grainy sweetness and hints of fruit. Malty, light sour flavor along some dark fruit and a faint roasted malty bitter touch.

Bottle during dinner at Sangria 46. Pours black/brown with some fading head. Malty but incredibly light. Pretty good brew with all things considered and it went well the amazing with the portobello con salmon y queso a la parrilla!

Bottle at Cafe Salsa in Alexandria, VA. Pours a clear, deep ruby with a beautiful, rocky, tan, one-finger head with good retention. Leaves very sticky lacing. Aroma is huge maraschino cherries, a bit of chocolate-covered strawberries. Taste is similarly excellent: some brown sugar, vinous character, cherries, a hint of spicy rum. A bit astringent on the palate but still smooth and drinkable. This was very good. A nice surprise!

0,33 l can. Deep ruby colored one with a small lacing beige head. Some vinous character in the nose with some toasted and a light roasted perfume. Vinous flavor with light bit of roasted malt and some charamel taste.
